On this auspicious occasion of World Teachers' Day, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State, proudly joins the world in celebrating our teachers for their immense contributions and immeasurable value to building society, both today and in the future.

We recognize the critical role teachers have played in our state's development over the years, particularly in shaping our children's physical and mental attitudes to conform with our society's moral, social, religious, and intellectual ideals.

This year's theme, "Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures" couldn't be more fitting. As a party deeply rooted in democratic principles, we believe teachers should be protected and encouraged with better incentives to motivate them to do their jobs even better. Therefore, government should include them in planning, developing, and implementing education policies, programs, and overall sector administration.

Today, the PDP stands with teachers, celebrating their wins and sharing their challenges. On behalf of all parents who may never fully express gratitude, we sincerely thank our teachers for their selflessness and wish them a happy celebration.

PDP SUPPORTS POLICE SECURITY DIRECTIVE, CONDEMNS POLITICISATION OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND CALLS FOR LAWFUL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, supports the decision of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command to cancel earlier approvals for political activities in the interest of peace and public safety.

Our party obtained police approval on 9 September 2026 for activities scheduled to take place from 1 to 3 October 2026. Despite the preparations and resources committed to these activities, we complied with the subsequent cancellation following the security concerns communicated by the Police.

If any political organisation has grounds to express disappointment over the cancellation, it is the PDP, whose previously approved activities were directly affected. Nevertheless, we recognise that the safety of our members and the wider public must come before political convenience.

We therefore wonder why any political group would seek to politicise a security concern affecting the peace of Akwa Ibom State.

The group concerned was clearly informed by the Police that the PDP had received earlier approval on 9 September, whereas its own application was submitted on 28 September 2026, seeking to hold a rally at the same locations already earmarked for PDP activities.

Seeking to mobilise rival political gatherings at the same locations and during the same period creates an obvious risk of confrontation. Why insist on a course capable of inviting disorder into a State whose peace we all have a duty to protect?

More troubling is the decision to proceed with the planned rally despite the security directive, while the PDP, as a law-abiding party, suspended its activities and directed its members to comply.

Compliance with security directives must be expected of every political party and group. Political affiliation should confer no exemption from lawful accountability.

Following reports of arrests, we call on the Police to investigate the alleged violations thoroughly, fairly and transparently. Where evidence establishes an offence, those responsible should face the appropriate lawful process, with full respect for their rights and the presumption of innocence.

The PDP will closely follow the handling of this matter. The Police must demonstrate consistency and impartiality. Failure to address established violations through due process would set an unhealthy precedent and encourage future disregard for lawful security measures.

Our position is clear: the Police acted responsibly in prioritising public safety, and all affected groups should have respected that decision.

We call on all PDP members and supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding. No member should engage in confrontation, retaliatory conduct or take the law into their own hands. Any grievance must be pursued through peaceful and lawful channels.

Akwa Ibom belongs to all of us. Its peace must never become a casualty of political ambition.

AKWA IBOM PDP MOURNS THE PASSING OF CHIEF DAN ORBIH, FORMER PDP NATIONAL VICE CHAIRMAN, SOUTH-SOUTH

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan S. Akpan, received with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss the news of the passing of Chief Dan Orbih, former National Vice Chairman of our great Party for the South-South Zone.

Chief Orbih was more than a party stalwart. He was a committed democrat, a bridge-builder, and a loyal servant of the PDP whose dedication to the ideals of democracy and good governance left an indelible mark on our Party and on Nigeria’s political landscape.

Throughout his years of service, Chief Orbih distinguished himself as a great party man. In every position he held, he brought wisdom, courage, and a commitment to nation building. As National Vice Chairman, South-South, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the PDP across the region and promote the values of inclusiveness and internal democracy that remain the bedrock of our Party.

His contributions were not limited to party politics alone. Chief Orbih was a passionate advocate for equity, fairness, and the collective progress of the South-South and Nigeria at large. He believed in a Nigeria where every voice matters and where democracy delivers prosperity to the people.

On behalf of the entire PDP family in Akwa Ibom State, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, PDP members across the South-South, as well as his numerous friends, associates, and mentees.

We pray to the Almighty God to grant the soul of our departed leader eternal rest, and to grant his family, friends, and the entire PDP the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

Chief Dan Orbih lived a life of service. He will be remembered, honoured, and sorely missed.

Today at the Federal High Court:
The suit filed by Turaki, Jerry Gana, Wabara & Co seeking to compel INEC to grant leadership recognition was dismissed for lacking in merit.

The Appellate Court has upheld the recognition of the Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu-led National Working Committee of the PDP.

BREAKING: Abuja Court Throws Out Bid to Force INEC to Recognize PDP Interim Leadership

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit by Kabiru Tanimu, Jerry Gana, Aldolphus Wabara and their co-travellers asking INEC to recognize an “Illegal Interim National Working Committee.” The court ruled the case lacked merit.

The decision also affirms the Abdulrahman led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.

PDP members home and abroad have welcomed the judgement and are celebrating the victory.

INEC Finally Settles PDP Leadership Question With Updated PDP NWC List On There Portal.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has further brought clarity to the leadership structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by updating its official portal with the names of members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

The updated records on the Commission’s portal reflect the leadership of the Party under the National Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Abdulrahman, and the National Secretary, Distinguished Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.

This development is widely seen as a significant step in affirming the current leadership of the Party and reinforcing institutional certainty regarding the composition of the PDP’s National Working Committee. It also aligns with the Party’s continued efforts to strengthen internal administration and ensure effective coordination of its activities nationwide.
