GOV UMO ENO REVEALS GAINS OF EXCO RETREAT

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has said that the just-concluded State Executive Council retreat was an opportunity to inspire members of his team, get them to aspire for greater performance and take actions that would enhance full actualisation of the ARISE Agenda.

He said the 4-day exercise was an opportunity to critically assess his administration's alignment with the economic development blueprint, the ARISE Agenda, and identify gaps to be plugged as he heads towards third year in office.

The Governor stated this while briefing Government House correspondents on his arrival at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on Saturday April 12, 2025.

He emphasized on the need for regular self assessment, training and skill improvement, especially to equip the newly-appointed Exco members with necessary knowledge to carry out their responsibilities.

"We just brought some new commissioners on board, and we needed to induct them and bring them up to speed with public service procedures in line with the ARISE Agenda.

"In the last two years, we have done a few things, so it was necessary to assess our performance in line with the ARISE Agenda and the gaps that we have to plug.

"As human beings, there must be gaps, and through assessment, the gaps are identified, and with action plans to plug them. There is always need for assessment, and any life that is not assessed is not worth living.

"So that is all the retreat was about, we are back, reloaded, refreshed and ready to progress in our services to our State," he said.

Speaking about the 18- Storey iconic Ibom Towers in Lagos which he inspected shortly after the retreat, the Governor expressed delight over the progress of work at the site, and appreciated the contractor, Messrs WL Construction Limited for its commitment towards realizing the vision of the State on the project.

He advised the project contractor to ensure that Akwa Ibom indigenous contractors and artisans residing in Lagos are duly engaged to feel the impact of the project.

Six Leadership Lessons I’ve Learned from the Eagle

The eagle has always fascinated me—not just because of its strength and beauty, but because of the powerful leadership traits it models. Every time I study this remarkable bird, I discover life-changing lessons that challenge and inspire me. Here are six of those lessons that continue to shape the way I lead and live:
---

1. I’ve Learned to Fly High and Alone

Eagles don’t fly with sparrows or hang around small birds. They rise alone and soar at great altitudes.

What it taught me:
I don’t need to follow the crowd. I’ve learned to be comfortable being alone if that’s what it takes to grow. I’ve distanced myself from people who limit my thinking or drain my energy. I now seek meaningful connections—those who challenge and inspire me to soar higher.
---

2. I’ve Trained My Eyes to Stay Focused

An eagle can see its prey from miles away and never loses focus until the mission is complete.

What it taught me:
Distractions are everywhere, but I’ve made a conscious choice to fix my eyes on my goals. Even when things get tough, I remind myself why I started. Vision gives me direction, and focus gives me power.
---

3. I Don’t Feed on What’s Dead

Eagles don’t eat carcasses; they go after fresh prey.

What it taught me:
I can’t live on yesterday’s success. I’ve learned to keep pressing forward, always seeking new ideas, new experiences, and new victories. The past is a lesson, not a residence. I celebrate it, but I don’t settle in it.
---

4. I’ve Chosen to Ride the Storm

Unlike other birds, eagles get excited when storms come—they use the winds to lift themselves even higher.

What it taught me:
Storms no longer scare me. I’ve discovered that challenges are opportunities in disguise. Instead of hiding, I face my battles head-on, knowing they’re preparing me for something greater. Every difficulty I overcome builds my capacity to soar.
---

5. I Push Myself Beyond Comfort

Eagles intentionally make their young uncomfortable so they can learn to fly.

What it taught me:
I can’t grow if I stay in the same place mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Growth demands discomfort. I’ve learned to stretch myself, take risks, and embrace the unfamiliar. Leaving my comfort zone has always led me to new heights.
---

6. I’ve Learned to Renew Myself

When an eagle grows old and weak, it retreats, sheds its feathers, and goes through a painful renewal process before flying again.

What it taught me:
There are seasons in life when I’ve had to let go—of bad habits, limiting beliefs, or things I thought I couldn’t live without. Renewal has been painful at times, but necessary. Shedding the old has always made space for a stronger, better version of me.
---

Final Thoughts:
I’m not just trying to live—I’m learning to lead, to rise, and to renew. The eagle reminds me that leadership begins within, and if I’m willing to embrace the process, I can truly soar.

Wishing you a bold and purposeful day.

Steering the Ship of Progress: The Umo Eno Administration in Motion

By Bush Udombo

March 18, 2023, was no ordinary day; it was the day history unfolded like a sacred scroll, inscribed with the will of a people yearning for continuity and progress. With 356,348 resounding votes, the people of Akwa Ibom anointed Pastor Umo Eno as the captain of their collective ship, trusting him to steer it across the turbulent seas of governance into the promised land of transformation. The ink of democracy flowed freely that day, writing a new chapter of hope in the book of the state’s destiny.

Governance is not merely a position; it is a covenant—one where the leader must etch his name in the hearts of his people, not with empty promises, but with tangible progress. Like a potter molding clay, Governor Umo Eno has set his hands to shape a state that breathes development, opportunity, and renewed purpose. The people’s trust was not given lightly; it was earned through a vision that mirrors their deepest aspirations, one that speaks the language of growth, equity, and prosperity.

The election results told a compelling story. While democracy permitted multiple contenders to seek the throne, the voice of the people echoed in unison—an 83% landslide victory for the man they saw as the torchbearer of Akwa Ibom’s golden future. This was not just a win; it was an affirmation that leadership is not a battle of numbers but a reflection of the collective heartbeat of a people longing for steady hands at the wheel.

“To lead is to serve; to serve is to love.” True leadership is not about occupying a seat of power but about bearing the weight of responsibility with grace and fortitude. Governor Umo Eno embodies this truth, approaching each day not as a ruler but as a steward of the people's trust. “Every time I prepare to come to work, I tell God to help me not to betray that trust that He has placed on me, and to help me be a servant leader.” These words are more than a declaration; they are a solemn oath to the people, a pledge to govern with wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment.

Politics, in its rawest form, is often likened to a battlefield where ambitions clash like swords in the hands of restless warriors. Yet, true leadership is an art, not a war. It is the ability to transform a state into a masterpiece, to take the scattered hues of challenges and blend them into a breathtaking canvas of progress. Governor Umo Eno has chosen the path of the artist, painting the future of Akwa Ibom with bold strokes of innovation, inclusion, and infrastructural rebirth.

The golden era has begun, and its pillars stand firm on the foundation of the A.R.I.S.E Agenda—Agriculture, Rural Development, Infrastructure, Security, and Education. Each pillar is a lighthouse, guiding the state through the night of past limitations into the dawn of new possibilities. Like a farmer tending his field, the governor has planted seeds of transformation, watering them with policies that empower, inspire, and elevate the people.

A road is more than tar and stone; it is a bridge between dreams and reality. Every new infrastructure project under this administration is a pathway to economic expansion, a lifeline connecting aspirations to fulfillment. Markets are no longer distant mirages for rural farmers; education is no longer a privilege for the few but a right for all. Security is no longer an uncertain hope but a guaranteed shield that protects the hardworking citizens of this land.

Leadership is a marathon, not a sprint. While many seek the throne for its grandeur, the true test of a leader is endurance—the ability to run with vision, stride with resilience, and embrace the finish line with the cheers of a transformed society. Governor Umo Eno is not running alone; he is running with the people, for the people, propelled by their collective faith in his ability to deliver.

Philosophers have often said that the greatest test of power is how it is used. A leader may either be a builder or a destroyer, a bridge or a barricade. Governor Umo Eno has chosen to be the architect of a new Akwa Ibom, one where every citizen finds a home in progress, where no dream is too small, and no ambition too far-fetched. The economy is shifting, industries are rising, and the state is awakening to the dawn of something extraordinary.

Time, like a river, never flows backward. The mistakes of yesterday may serve as lessons, but the vision of tomorrow is what fuels the drive forward. As the administration pushes through the tide of governance, one thing remains clear—Akwa Ibom has placed its destiny in the hands of a leader who listens, who cares, and who builds. The echoes of his commitment reverberate across every policy, every project, and every plan set in motion.

The people of Akwa Ibom did not just vote for a governor; they voted for a legacy. This is not just an era—it is a revolution of hope, a renaissance of development, and a symphony of progress. The stage is set, the instruments of governance are tuned, and the orchestra of transformation has begun its performance.

Congratulations, Akwa Ibom people! The sun of a new era has risen, and under its golden glow, the state marches forward—not with hesitation, but with certainty, not with fear, but with unshakable belief that the best is yet to come.

Governor Umo Eno: Leading a Revolution in Local Governance

By Bush Udombo

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno is taking Akwa Ibom to new heights, cementing his legacy as a leader who is serious about local government autonomy. On July 11, 2024, the Supreme Court delivered a groundbreaking judgment, affirming the financial independence of Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Councils. But while this ruling was national, it’s Governor Eno who is making it come to reality.

The seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, upheld a suit from the federal government, pushing for the true independence of local governments. But the law is only as strong as the leaders who implement it, and in Akwa Ibom, Governor Eno has shown he is more than ready to put the wheels of progress into motion.

With a grand display of leadership, Pastor Umo Eno recently swore in newly elected Chairmen across all 31 local government areas in the state. This wasn’t just another government ceremony; it was a powerful statement that the era of local governments playing second fiddle is over. Governor Eno has put his full weight behind empowering local leaders to spearhead development where it matters most—right in the heart of the communities.

What sets Governor Eno apart is his belief that real change starts at the grassroots. He knows that the people closest to the community understand its needs better than anyone else. By giving local governments the autonomy they deserve, Governor Eno is ensuring that development plans are made by those who are directly impacted. This is a game-changer.

The recent local government elections in Akwa Ibom were a victory for democracy. Every vote cast was a declaration by the people that they wanted a say in their future. Under Governor Eno’s watch, these elections weren’t just about filling positions—they were about handing power back to the people. He’s putting local governance in the hands of those who truly resonate with the hopes and dreams of their communities.

At the swearing-in ceremony, you could feel the excitement in the air. The newly elected Chairmen weren’t just receiving titles; they were being entrusted with the monumental responsibility of bringing real change to their areas. These leaders now have the authority to tackle challenges like infrastructure, healthcare, and education, making sure their communities flourish under their watch.

Governor Eno’s leadership is all about inclusion. He’s making sure that every part of Akwa Ibom gets the attention and resources it deserves. By empowering these local leaders, he’s fostering a culture of collaboration. This isn’t a top-down approach—it’s about communities working hand-in-hand to solve their unique challenges and make the most of their opportunities.

Thanks to this financial autonomy, the newly elected Chairmen are in the perfect position to execute Governor Eno’s vision for a better Akwa Ibom. They now have both the freedom and the support to roll out projects that will directly improve the lives of their constituents. It’s no longer a case of waiting for far-off decisions; the power to act is now in their hands.

Under Governor Eno’s forward-thinking leadership, local governments are becoming more than just administrative bodies. They are transforming into hubs of innovation, economic growth, and social development. This new approach is about finding practical solutions that address the specific needs of each community. It’s about making a real difference where it counts.

This shift in governance is no small feat. Governor Eno is proving that he’s not just a leader—he’s a visionary. He understands that to unlock Akwa Ibom’s full potential, he needs to empower those who are closest to the people. By trusting local leaders to make decisions, he’s setting the state on a path toward remarkable progress.

As these new Chairmen take their oaths, they carry with them the hopes and aspirations of their communities. Governor Eno has given them the tools they need to succeed, but the real work is just beginning. With his guidance, these leaders have the potential to make an impact that will be felt across Akwa Ibom for years to come.

Governor Umo Eno is redefining what it means to govern in Akwa Ibom. His commitment to local government autonomy and development is not just another policy—it’s a movement. It’s a revolution in leadership that promises to usher in an era where communities thrive, and development is no longer a distant dream but a reality right at the doorstep of every Akwa Ibomite.

The UduakAbasi Campaign Team descended upon Udesi, Ebughu 1, and Ebughu Ward 2 with a bang! The entire area was abuzz with excitement as Mr. Sunday Okon Etim, the PDP Chairmanship Candidate, led the charge. He wasn’t alone in this powerful entry; standing by his side was the ever-confident Vice Chairmanship Candidate, Elder Mrs. Iniobong Okon Etim, and the insightful PDP Chapter Chairman, Mr. Okon Effiong Ante. Along with key Mbo Stakeholders, enthusiastic youths, and passionate women, this formidable team arrived with one clear goal – to completely overhaul Mbo Local Government as the October 5th elections approach.

When the team moved through the wards, it wasn’t a quiet walk-through – it was an electrifying experience! Handshakes, broad smiles, and a sense of joy filled the atmosphere. This was far from your typical political campaign. The UduakAbasi team didn’t just ask for votes; they took time to listen to the people's concerns, engaging with them deeply and leaving a spark of hope. Standing confidently beside him, Elder Mrs. Iniobong Okon Etim showcased her wealth of experience, proving that this duo isn’t here for the show – they mean business. Together, they embody strong, dynamic leadership, inspiring the entire Mbo people to rally behind their cause.

Behind the scenes, there’s a mastermind driving this campaign – Evangelist Joseph Eyoh, the Campaign Director General. His strategic brilliance ensured that every interaction counted. This wasn’t just a casual tour; every handshake and every word was intentional, aimed at creating unity and progress. The people of Mbo didn’t just watch from the sidelines; they were active participants in something monumental, something destined to change their future.

As the day continued, the streets of Udesi and Ebughu echoed with the powerful chant “Abasi Odiong Mbo!” – a cry of support for the UduakAbasi team. It wasn’t just a slogan; it was the heartbeat of a community desperate for a brighter future. With every passing moment, the bond between the candidates and their supporters grew stronger, and it became crystal clear that Mbo was on the verge of a transformation.

Now, the countdown to October 5th is officially on. The UduakAbasi Campaign Team has fired up the people of Mbo, and they’re more than ready for the change that’s coming. The stage is set, the people are ready, and Mbo is about to rise to the next level!

A’IBOM AT 37: GOV ENO, AKPABIO, OTHERS PREACH PEACE, UNITY AT STATE ANNIVERSARY SERVICE,

….affirm Akwa Ibom as Nigeria’s Model State

Akwa Ibom State has been described as a model state in Nigeria by its Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to institutionalizing peace and unifying various interests in the state to ensure optimum benefits for the citizenry.

These sentiments were expressed by the Governor at a special interdenominational thanksgiving service with the theme, “Peace Within Thy Walls and Prosperity Within Thy Palaces,” to mark the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation and Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary, held at the International Worship Centre, Uyo.

Governor Umo Eno, while expressing delight at seeing Akwa Ibom leaders of various shades come together to celebrate the state and worship God Almighty—whom he credited as the keeper of all—thanked God for the peace in the state. He paid tribute to former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, for heeding the call of Akwa Ibom’s founding fathers to create the state 37 years ago, urging the current generation to prioritize their identity as a people of common ancestry by rising above divisive interests.

The Governor asserted that unity remains the way forward for Akwa Ibom, reiterating his determination to continuously pursue the peace and unity of the state, for the benefit of its people.

He assured the public of his continued commitment to inclusive governance, collaboration across party lines, and working with the federal government and past leaders of the state to enhance his administration’s potential in bringing the needed development to the people.

“For me, I came in peace; I came as a servant of the people, and my greatest prayer is that God, who brought me at this time as a pastor—not just a pastor by title, but as one truly called by the Lord—will continue to do the work He has sent me to do.

“The truth is, we share the same heritage, common humanity, and a mutual sense of service to the people. We have to stand by each other—that is the joy and real spirit of Akwa Ibomites. This is the legacy our founding fathers established 37 years ago.

“I would like to thank God for the privilege and the heart He has given us and our leaders. Today, seated here, is the essence of Akwa Ibom, Nigeria.

“Our joy today is that we have all our leaders gathered under one roof to worship the one God who created Akwa Ibom State. We are here as Akwa Ibomites first, bound by the love for our people, thanking God that this state belongs to all of us. That is my joy today, and I believe that God, who began this work, will complete it,” he added.

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, represented by his wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, conveyed the felicitations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly to the government and people of Akwa Ibom State on the 37th anniversary, praying for continuous peace, unity, and prosperity for the state.

He commended the love and brotherhood among the traditional rulers in the state, the State House of Assembly for amending the Traditional Rulers Council Law, and especially Governor Eno for charting a path of peace for the state.

Former Governor of the State, Architect Victor Attah, expressed delight at how fast and far Akwa Ibom State has grown since its creation. He commended Governor Eno for his deliberate efforts to unite the state and congratulated the people on the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Obong Emem Ekperikpe Ekpo, also expressed his gratitude for the peace and unity in Akwa Ibom State, describing Governor Umo Eno as the best thing that has happened to the state.

The State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Christian Nyong, in his address, congratulated Governor Eno and the people of Akwa Ibom for the numerous blessings the state has enjoyed, particularly in terms of good leadership, peace, and multidimensional developments.

In a sermon based on Psalm 122:1-9, Rev. Godwin Amaowoh of the Assemblies of God Church described peace as a prerequisite for prosperity and development. He admonished the people of Akwa Ibom to be grateful for the peace and good governance in the state, which has made it attractive to many.

Rev. Amaowoh urged the people to eschew selfish ambitions, arrogant utterances, and ungodly behaviors, and instead seek to promote peace in the state to attract more prosperity and blessings.

The high point of the event was the reception and celebration of 39 Akwa Ibom children who returned from the maiden edition of the state-sponsored educational trip (ARISE Edutrip) for students in rural public schools to the United Kingdom.

Governor Umo Eno’s Unstoppable Week of Service and Leadership

By Bush Udombo

This past week, Akwa Ibom State witnessed yet another remarkable display of leadership from the governor of Akwa Ibom State His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno. From connecting with cultural groups to rolling out life-changing programs, it was a week that reminded everyone why Akwa Ibom is standing tall among Nigeria's states.

It all began on Sunday, September 15th, when the Governor met with Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, a respected socio-cultural organization. The group did not hold back in praising the Governor for his impressive achievements since assuming office. The highlight of the meeting, however, was when Governor Eno announced that his administration would clear the #35 billion arrears owed to civil servants in the state. This promise touched many hearts, showing that his leadership prioritizes fairness and justice for the hardworking people of Akwa Ibom.

That same Sunday, Governor Eno made a stop at Delightsome Christian Church, Uyo, where he had worshipped years before alongside the late PDP State Chairman, Sir Udo Ekpenyong. This time, he didn’t just worship; he worked wonders. In a move that stunned everyone present, the Governor announced that the #2 billion loan scheme for traders would now be a grant. Imagine the joy that filled the church as he made this declaration! This was yet another sign that Governor Eno's focus is on helping the ordinary people thrive.

Monday, September 16th, saw the Governor taking his compassion a step further by launching the second phase of the Arise Food Security Programme. This initiative ensures that food is provided to the state’s most vulnerable citizens, fulfilling a promise he made to support those in need. With trucks procured to guarantee smooth distribution, the Governor proved that he doesn’t just make promises – he delivers on them.

The same day, Governor Eno showed his compassionate side when he led a delegation to Abuja to console the family of the late Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Adedamola Ayilara. He described the late police chief as a committed officer who served with passion, a touching tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the service of others. The Governor’s visit was a reminder that he values those who give their all for the safety and security of Akwa Ibom.

On Friday, September 20th, Governor Eno lived up to his word by fulfilling a promise he made in February to the family of late Nollywood makeup artist Abigail Edith Frederick. The Governor handed over a fully remodeled six-bedroom house to her family, providing not only a roof over their heads but also a future filled with hope. Alongside this, he gave the family a business support grant and educational funds for Abigail's two younger sisters. This was a display of leadership with heart, showing that the Governor cares deeply for the people he leads.

That same Friday, the Governor took another bold step in health care by launching the ARISECare State Health Insurance Scheme. The scheme will provide junior civil servants and other residents access to affordable health care. The Governor didn't stop there – he also donated 10 ambulances and earmarked #180 million for the enrollment of civil servants into the scheme. With this initiative, Governor Eno is building a healthier and stronger Akwa Ibom.

The Governor’s energy was not just limited to governance. On Friday evening, he graced the Uyo Fashion Week, where he expressed pride in the creativity of Akwa Ibom’s youth. He commended the organizers and pledged his administration's continued support for the creative industry. Governor Eno recognizes the importance of showcasing Akwa Ibom’s talent on both local and global stages, proving that creativity and innovation have a place in his government.

Saturday, September 21st, saw the Governor attending a monthly prayer meeting at the Latter House Chapel, Governor’s Lodge. It was a moment of reflection and thanksgiving, but it was also an opportunity for Governor Eno to urge the citizens of Akwa Ibom to work towards peace, unity, and progress. With the local government elections fast approaching, his call for participation was a reminder that democracy thrives when everyone is involved.

What a week it was! Governor Umo Bassey Eno’s tireless efforts throughout these seven days have cemented his place as a leader who is always on the move, always thinking about the well-being of his people. His actions speak louder than words, from delivering on promises to touching lives at every turn.

As we look forward to the coming week, the people of Akwa Ibom can rest assured that they have a Governor who is committed to bringing lasting change and progress. Pastor Umo Bassey Eno is not just a leader; he is a force for good, and Akwa Ibom continues to rise under his visionary leadership.

With a leader like this, there is no doubt that Akwa Ibom will continue to shine as a state of excellence. Every initiative, every act of compassion, and every moment of service in the past week showed that Akwa Ibom’s future is brighter than ever. Governor Eno is truly building a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
