AKWA IBOM INFORMATION COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR INCREASED PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR STATE SECURITY TRUST FUND

The Honourable Commissioner for Information, Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has called on individuals, organisations and corporate bodies to increase their support for the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund.

Speaking at a roundtable on Building Climate-Resilient Communities Through Sustainable Livelihoods, the Commissioner described security as a collective responsibility, noting that sustained support is essential to strengthening the capacity of security agencies and maintaining the peace and safety of the State.

He highlighted the significant investments of the State Government in supporting security agencies with logistics and other operational resources, while encouraging members of the public to also play their part through voluntary contributions to the Security Trust Fund.

Hon. Umanah further stressed the importance of public awareness and transparency around the Fund, noting that greater visibility of its account would help encourage individuals and organisations to contribute voluntarily.

This reinforces the need for broader stakeholder participation in sustaining the peace and security that Akwa Ibom continues to enjoy.

The Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund remains committed to supporting the State’s security architecture and fostering a safer environment for all.

REINFORCING PUBLIC SAFETY: AKSTF SEEKS STRONGER PARTNERSHIP WITH NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE IN AKWA IBOM

Recognising the vital role of correctional institutions in reinforcing public safety and strengthening the administration of justice, the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund (AKSTF) has intensified efforts to build stronger institutional partnerships with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Akwa Ibom State Command, in support of a safer and more secure Akwa Ibom State.

Discussions held on Tuesday, 21st July 2026, at the State Correctional Headquarters, Uyo, centred on the evolving role of correctional institutions in strengthening public safety, supporting the administration of justice and promoting offender rehabilitation. Leading the AKSTF delegation, the Executive Secretary, Col. Kingsley Umoh (Rtd.), commended the Command for its commitment to correctional reforms and its contribution to building safer communities through rehabilitation and reintegration programmes. The delegation was received by the Controller of Corrections, Akwa Ibom State Command, CC Theophilus N. Okoka.

During the meeting, the Executive Secretary, AKSTF, commended the Nigerian Correctional Service for its contribution to public safety through the safe custody, rehabilitation, reformation and reintegration of inmates, noting that these responsibilities remain critical to building a secure and orderly society.

In his remarks, the Controller of Corrections appreciated the Executive Secretary for the visit and highlighted the Command's commitment to effective correctional administration, while emphasizing the importance of sustained institutional support in enhancing service delivery.

Both institutions expressed their resolve to deepen cooperation in advancing public safety, strengthening correctional service delivery, and promoting initiatives that support rehabilitation, reintegration and a more secure Akwa Ibom State.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TAKES CENTRE STAGE AS AKSTF VISITS STATE FIRE SERVICE

Fire and rescue services remain indispensable to the protection of lives, property and critical public infrastructure. Recognising this important responsibility, the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund (AKSTF) met with the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service in Uyo as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional relationships with agencies delivering essential public safety services across the State.

The Executive Secretary of the Trust Fund, Col. Kingsley Umoh (Rtd.), commended officers of the State Fire Service for their dedication to emergency response despite operational challenges, describing their work as vital to building safer communities. Receiving the delegation, the Director of the State Fire Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Mfon Uwah, Director, Occupational Safety/Fire Rescue Services, appreciated the visit and commended His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., for establishing the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund, noting that the initiative reflects the State Government's commitment to strengthening security and public safety.

In a landmark engagement aimed at advancing emergency preparedness and public safety in Akwa Ibom State, the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund (AKSTF) held a strategic meeting with the Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, to deepen institutional collaboration and promote a more coordinated approach to emergency response.

The engagement, which took place on Monday, 20th July 2026, saw the Executive Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund, Col. Kingsley Umoh (Rtd.), lead an AKSTF delegation on a strategic visit to the Command Headquarters in Uyo, where they were received by the Acting State Controller, Chief Superintendent of Fire (CSF) Nkanang Mayen Charles.

Speaking during the engagement, the Executive Secretary commended the Federal Fire Service for its unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property and critical infrastructure through fire prevention, rescue operations and emergency response. He noted that an effective fire and rescue service remains an indispensable component of the State's emergency management framework and emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration in building safer and more resilient communities.

AKSTF, NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO STRATEGIC SECURITY PARTNERSHIP

The Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund (AKSTF) has continued its strategic engagement with security institutions across the State with a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Akwa Ibom State Command, as part of its ongoing efforts to foster stronger institutional partnerships in support of Akwa Ibom State's security architecture.

The AKSTF delegation, led by the Executive Secretary, Col. Kingsley Umoh (Rtd.), was received at the Command Headquarters in Uyo by the Comptroller of Immigration, Akwa Ibom State Command, CIS P. Oyedoh, alongside officers of the Command.

Addressing officers during the visit, Col. Kingsley Umoh (Rtd.) said the ongoing engagements provide an opportunity for the Trust Fund to interact directly with security agencies, gain a better understanding of their operational priorities, and identify practical areas where intervention would strengthen service delivery. He noted that the Trust Fund remains committed to mobilizing resources and facilitating strategic support that enhances the operational capacity of security agencies in line with the Akwa Ibom State Government's vision of a safe and secure State.

The Executive Secretary commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for its vital role in protecting the Akwa Ibom territorial integrity through effective border management, migration control, and the enforcement of immigration laws. He observed that the Service continues to play an indispensable role in safeguarding security and supporting internal stability.

In his remarks, the Comptroller of Immigration, CIS P. Oyedoh, appreciated the Executive Secretary for the visit and described the engagement as a demonstration of the Trust Fund's commitment to inclusive stakeholder collaboration. He reaffirmed the Command's readiness to sustain productive collaboration with the Trust Fund while highlighting the importance of continued institutional support in enhancing operational effectiveness.

The visit concluded with a shared resolve to work closely in advancing initiatives that will enhance operational effectiveness and contribute to the continued safety and security of Akwa Ibom State.
