Asuakak Umoh Expands Grassroots Banking Access with Launch of firstmonie Outlet in Ibiono Ibom

The Executive Chairman, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (OBONG)Asuakàak Umoh, has launched a firstmonie Outlet as part of efforts to drive economic development and expand access to financial services in the area.

The initiative aligns with the financial inclusion targets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to empower small-scale entrepreneurs and promote sustainable economic growth, particularly in rural communities.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Umoh said improved access to banking services is essential to unlocking economic opportunities for rural dwellers, especially farmers, traders, and small business owners who have long operated outside the formal financial system.

He noted that the firstmonie Outlet will deliver reliable and modern financial services, stimulate local economic activities, promote a stronger savings culture, and enhance the overall economic resilience of residents.

Describing the development as historic, the Council Secretary, Architect Charles Bassey, said the local government had anticipated the establishment of a financial institution since its creation in 1996.

“This is a dream come true for our people. We are confident the bank will grow rapidly, and the council is fully committed to supporting its success,” he said.

Also speaking, a representative of First Bank of Nigeria, Mr Ikemefunna Nwachukwu, described the development and the introduction of Firstmonie services as a symbol of trust and progress.

He commended the council chairman’s leadership, noting that the initiative would ease financial challenges, expand access to banking services, and enable residents to participate more actively in the Nigerian economy.

According to him, the bank’s presence would also generate employment opportunities and usher in a new phase of economic development for the local government area.

The Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon, has described the opening of firstmonie Outlet in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area as a significant milestone for the economic growth and financial inclusion of the people. He noted that the presence of the bank will bring banking services closer to the grassroots, reduce the burden of travelling long distances for financial transactions, and encourage savings and investment among residents.

Rt. Hon. Okon commended the management of First Bank for their confidence in Ibiono Ibom and assured them of the support and cooperation of the people. He emphasised that the development will stimulate local businesses, empower entrepreneurs, and contribute to the overall socio-economic advancement of the constituency, while reaffirming his commitment to attracting more development projects to the area.

In his remarks, Dr Uwemdimo Ekamem praised the chairman’s commitment to grassroots development and his efforts to bring essential financial services closer to the people.

The highlight of the ceremony was the official opening of the firstmonie Outlet as the Executive Chairman led stakeholders, the business class and representatives of First Bank on a tour of the facility.
