TRENDING NEWS: UN pays tribute, hails ex-Nigerian President’s commitment to regional stability
By Chris Johnson
The United Nations, UN, has joined global voices mourning the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London at the age of 82.
In a statement released through his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he was “deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari”.

The UN chief lauded Buhari’s contributions not only to Nigeria’s sovereignty and development but also to wider regional peace efforts
“During his tenure, President Buhari demonstrated a deep commitment to the sovereignty, stability and development of his country,” Guterres noted.

“He also played a key role in promoting regional peace and security in West Africa and the Lake Chad Basin.”
Buhari, a former military ruler turned democratically elected president, was particularly recognized for his strong anti-corruption stance and his support for regional counterterrorism collaborations under multinational frameworks.

The Secretary-General also described Buhari as “a strong advocate for multilateral and regional cooperation,” a quality that cemented Nigeria’s leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) during his administration.

In New York, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed personally visited Nigeria House to pay her respects. Mohammed, who once served as Minister of Environment under Buhari, signed the condolence register and offered heartfelt prayers for the late leader’s soul.

“He was a true patriot who believed in his country, believed in his people and did the best that he could,” Mohammed said. She praised Buhari’s “unwavering discipline, deep conviction and steadfast patriotism,” adding that his legacy would outlive his presidency.
Mohammed further commended Buhari’s resolve in prioritizing Nigeria’s and Africa’s interests in global forums, saying his leadership often reflected the continent’s voice on issues like climate change, anti-terrorism, and economic reform. ゚viralシalシ

TRENDING NEWS: Read how played before his death. Buhari was in high spirits night before his death, says Mamman Daura
by Samuel Akpan
Mamman Daura, nephew of former President Muhammadu Buhari, says the late Nigerian leader was in good spirits hours before his death.
Buhari passed away on Sunday at the age of 82 in a clinic in London, the United Kingdom.

Daura told ThisDay that he spent Saturday evening with Buhari at the clinic, where he had been receiving medical care.
He said Buhari was cheerful and talkative and even made plans to return to Nigeria later in the week after his discharge.

“We were together on Saturday, talking and laughing, and Buhari was in high spirits in the London Clinic where he was admitted,” Daura said.
“We talked about everything. He even had the plan to depart for Nigeria upon his discharge this week and made sure that arrangements were made to sort out the hotel bills of everybody who was in London on his behalf before departing.”

Daura said he left Buhari around 9 p.m. on Saturday, intending to see him again on Sunday afternoon.
But by midday on Sunday, he said Buhari’s condition took a sharp turn for the worse.

“I left him around 9pm on Saturday in high spirits and promised to see him on Sunday afternoon. He was looking forward to his doctor’s visit on Sunday morning,” Daura said.
“But around midday, he started having breathing challenges, and doctors rushed to his side to try and manage it. But unfortunately, around 4.30 pm, he gave up the ghost.”
The remains of the late former president departed the European country for Nigeria on Tuesday.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to receive the co**se for burial scheduled later today in Daura, Katsina state. ゚viralシalシ

NIGERIA POLITICS: Oyegun gets ADC membership card in Edo
By Adeyinka Adedipe
Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun, on Tuesday, got the membership card of the African Democratic Congress from the Edo State chairman of the party, Kennedy Odion, in Benin, the state capital.

Presenting him with the party’s card at the party’s secretariat, Odion said Oyegun is not new to forming a coalition, adding that he has done it before and he is doing it again with the view of redeeming the nation from its economic quagmire.

He said, “He has put together what is called a coalition before, and he succeeded. So, in mathematics, once you understand the formula, the answer is in view. So, he understands how he did it before, so doing it again is not a difficult task.

“So as God may have it, he is not from any other state but from the heartbeat of this nation, Edo State and we are moving the coalition together.
“He was the chairman of the implementation committee that decided that ADC would be the platform.”

On the part, Oyegun said before they settled for ADC, they did extensive research and found out that it is the party that has the interest of Nigerians at heart.

He added, “We talked to a lot of parties, about seven. Up till the very last minute. We made a report and we said ADC. And some said, ‘No, no, no, you must still talk to this, you must still talk to that.’
“So, we delayed the decision for another fortnight.

“At the end of our meeting, we still came back. I said, ‘Yes, what you ask us to do, we’ve done. We’ve talked to the others, but we have not seen a party as dedicated as the ADC'”, Oyegun said.
Oyegun further blamed the ruling APC for the hunger and starvation in the country.

He also blamed the APC-led government for its inability to tackle the rising insecurity in the country, especially in Benue and other states.
The former APC national chairman said the country has never been so divided as it is under the present leadership of Bola Tinubu.
He said those who are peddling the rumour that the ADC is planning to disrupt the government of the day are only trying to diminish the aims and objectives of the coalition, which is to rescue Nigerians.

Oyegun said the party is growing by the day and that other notable politicians are still coming to join them soon.
“So, from a month ago, you were just ADC. Today, one can say we are the largest party in this nation. We are growing by the day, we are growing by the week. We are growing by the month. It’s still ADC, but ADC is now a mix of the best of the PDP and the APC. More are still coming on the way,” he said. ゚viralシalシ
