The Justice of Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA): A Legacy the World Still Talks About:
When people speak about justice in leadership, the name **Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA)** always stands out. The second Caliph after the Prophet ď·ş was known for a level of fairness that amazed both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
One famous story shows the depth of his justice.
The son of a powerful governor once struck a young Coptic Christian during a race in Egypt, proudly saying: *“I am the son of a noble man.”*
When the complaint reached Umar in Madinah, he summoned both the governor and his son. Then Umar handed the whip to the Coptic man and said:
> **“Strike the son of the noble man.”**
After justice was served, Umar turned to the governor and said words that still echo in history:
> **“Since when did you enslave people when their mothers gave birth to them free?”**
This was the leadership of Islam — a leader who feared Allah more than he loved power.
Umar (RA) would patrol the streets at night to check on the poor, carry food on his own back, and say:
> *“If a mule stumbled in Iraq, I fear Allah would ask me why I did not fix the road.”*
True leadership is not about authority — **it is about responsibility, humility, and justice.**
Today, centuries later, the legacy of Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) remains a powerful reminder of what righteous leadership looks like.
May Allah be pleased with him. 🤲
