TOPIC :LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH: WHAT EVERY COUPLE MUST KNOW TO SUCCEED
TEXTS:
Genesis 2:24, Ecclesiastes 4:9β12, Ephesians 5:21β33, 1 Corinthians 13:4β8
INTRODUCTION
Love is the doorway into marriage, but it is not the engine that keeps a marriage moving. Feelings change, emotions rise and fall, but a successful marriage is built on God's principles, commitment, sacrifice, wisdom, forgiveness, and intentional effort.
Many marriages have ended, not because there was no love, but because there was no understanding. Marriage is more than romanceβit is a covenant established by God.
MARRIAGE IS NOT KEPT BY FEELINGS; IT IS KEPT BY DAILY DECISIONS.
POINT ONE
TEN REASONS WHY LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH
1. LOVE WITHOUT GOD HAS NO FOUNDATION.
Scripture: Genesis 2:24; Matthew 7:24β25
God designed marriage; therefore, every marriage that excludes God will eventually struggle.
2. LOVE WITHOUT COMMITMENT CANNOT SURVIVE STORMS.
Real commitment says, "I am staying even when life becomes difficult."
3. LOVE WITHOUT COMMUNICATION CREATES DISTANCE.
Silence creates assumptions. Healthy communication builds healthy relationships.
4. LOVE WITHOUT TRUST PRODUCES FEAR.
Trust is earned through honesty, transparency, and consistency.
5. LOVE WITHOUT FORGIVENESS BECOMES BITTERNESS.
Every marriage will experience offences. Successful couples forgive quickly.
6. LOVE WITHOUT RESPECT DESTROYS HONOR.
A husband needs respect. A wife deserves honor. Respect preserves affection.
7. LOVE WITHOUT PATIENCE LEADS TO CONSTANT CONFLICT.
Strong marriages are built by patient people, not perfect people.
8. LOVE WITHOUT FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE BRINGS PRESSURE.
Many marriages are damaged because of poor money management.
9. LOVE WITHOUT PRAYER HAS NO SPIRITUAL COVERING.
A family that prays together invites God's presence into their home.
10. LOVE WITHOUT SACRIFICE BECOMES SELFISH.
Jesus demonstrated that genuine love gives rather than only receives.
POINT TWO
WHAT EVERY COUPLE MUST KNOW TO SUCCEED
1. GOD MUST BE THE CENTER OF YOUR MARRIAGE.
When Christ leads the home, peace follows.
2. MARRIAGE IS A COVENANT, NOT A CONTRACT.
Contracts end when one party fails.
Covenants remain because they are made before God.
3. COMMUNICATION IS THE HEARTBEAT OF EVERY HEALTHY HOME.
Speak with love.
Listen with patience.
Correct with wisdom.
4. CHOOSE FORGIVENESS EVERY DAY.
You cannot enjoy tomorrow while holding yesterday's offence.
5. BUILD TRUST DAILY.
Trust grows through honesty, faithfulness, and consistency.
6. LEARN TO MANAGE FINANCES TOGETHER.
Budget together.
Save together.
Plan together.
Pray together before major financial decisions.
7. KEEP ROMANCE ALIVE.
Celebrate birthdays.
Go on dates.
Pray together.
Laugh together.
Appreciate each other often.
POINT THREE
SEVEN KEYS TO BUILDING A MARRIAGE THAT WILL NEVER FAIL
1. PUT GOD FIRST.
2. PRAY TOGETHER EVERY DAY.
3. NEVER STOP COMMUNICATING.
4. FORGIVE QUICKLY.
5. SPEAK BLESSINGS OVER EACH OTHER.
6. KEEP LEARNING ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE.
7. NEVER INVOLVE A THIRD PARTY BEFORE INVOLVING GOD.
CONCLUSION
Marriage is one of God's greatest gifts, but it requires intentional work. Love may bring two people together, but wisdom, commitment, humility, forgiveness, prayer, and obedience to God's Word keep them together.
A successful marriage is not the union of two perfect people; it is the union of two people who continually depend on God's grace and choose to love each other every day.
PROPHETIC DECLARATION
I decree over every marriage and every intending couple today: every spirit of division, misunderstanding, bitterness, and separation is broken in the name of Jesus.
Your home shall become a dwelling place of peace.
Your love shall grow stronger every day.
Every financial struggle shall receive divine intervention.
Every delayed marriage shall receive supernatural speed.
Every broken relationship ordained by God shall be restored.
The joy, unity, favor, and glory of God shall rest upon your family.
Your marriage shall become a testimony to this generation and the next.
IN JESUS' MIGHTY NAME. AMEN!.
