Why ADC Should Nominate Hon. Yusuf Garba for Yola North, Yola South and Girei: A Case for Renewal Over Opportunism
By Idris Abdullahi Adam
The African Democratic Congress has a clear opportunity in the upcoming general election to present a candidate who embodies renewal and credibility for the Yola North, Yola South and Girei federal constituency. That candidate is Honourable Yusuf Garba. His profile directly answers the electorate’s growing demand for leadership that is both rooted in the community and untainted by the cycle of political defection driven by personal ambition rather than public service.
The party currently faces the challenge of several individuals who left their former parties only after losing internal relevance, now seeking the ADC platform as a vehicle for reelection. Nominating such candidates would signal to voters that the ADC is indistinguishable from the parties it seeks to replace, undermining the party’s reputation as an alternative built on principle. Voters in the constituency are aware of these movements and are increasingly skeptical of recycled political actors.
Honourable Yusuf Garba offers a contrast. He is a young, well-prepared aspirant who has focused on the Yola North, Yola South and Girei seat through consistent engagement, policy understanding, and grassroots presence. Unlike opportunistic entrants, he has not treated the constituency as a fallback option. This preparation means he can speak directly to local issues with specifics, not generalities, and can campaign with a coherent plan from day one.
Youth demographics in the constituency make his candidacy strategically sound. A significant portion of registered voters are under 40, and they are looking for representation that reflects their realities and future prospects. Fielding a candidate who is both young and intellectually prepared sends a message that the ADC is serious about generational transition, not just using youth as a slogan during campaigns.
Electorally, Yusuf Garba’s candidacy also limits internal friction. Because he has not been part of the recent wave of defections, he is less likely to carry unresolved disputes from other parties into the ADC structure. This gives the party a cleaner coordination process at the ward and local government levels, allowing resources and volunteer energy to focus on mobilization and voter outreach rather than managing legacy conflicts.
For these reasons, nominating Honourable Yusuf Garba as the ADC aspirant for Yola North, Yola South and Girei federal constituency is the most coherent choice for the party’s credibility, its connection with the youth vote, and its long-term standing in Adamawa State. It positions the ADC as a party that rewards preparation and public commitment over opportunism, and it gives the constituency a candidate prepared to serve rather than one seeking a seat to preserve personal political survival.
