YESTERDAY will forever be remembered as a landmark in the history of Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, as the institution hosted the grand public presentation and luncheon of a commemorative magazine to celebrate the well deserved reappointment of the Digital Rector, AMB Ibrahim Umar Kontagora, PhD, for a second four-year tenure as Rector.
The event was not merely a celebration of a renewed mandate; it was a powerful testament to visionary leadership, transformational governance, and an unwavering commitment to institutional excellence. It marked another significant chapter in the Polytechnic's remarkable journey of digital innovation, academic advancement, and sustainable development.
In his acceptance speech, the Digital Rector expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Visitor to the Polytechnic, His Excellency, the Farmer Governor of Niger State Umar Muhammad Bago, for the confidence reposed in him through his reappointment.
He described the renewed mandate as both a great honour and a solemn responsibility, pledging to rededicate himself to the vision of building a world class Polytechnic that excels in teaching, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement.
He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to strengthening digital transformation, improving infrastructure, enhancing staff welfare, empowering students, promoting academic excellence, and producing graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills, and character required to compete successfully in the global economy.
According to him, the second tenure represents not just a continuation of leadership but a renewed determination to elevate Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, to greater heights of excellence.
One of the most remarkable highlights of the occasion was the historic gathering of the Digital Rector and his predecessors under one roof.
This rare reunion symbolized unity, continuity, mutual respect, and the enduring spirit of institutional growth. It demonstrated that true leadership is measured not only by the offices held but by the enduring legacies and positive impact left for future generations.
In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi Sheshi, described the Digital Rector's first tenure as a tenure of consolidation and remarkable transformation. He applauded the Rector's exceptional efforts in repositioning the institution through digital innovation, administrative reforms, and infrastructural development, noting that the Polytechnic has become a model for excellence within the state's tertiary education sector.
The Chairman of the Occasion, Dr. Umar Ahmed Egbako, also commended the outstanding achievements recorded under the leadership of the Digital Rector. He praised his vision, resilience, dedication, and passion for excellence, expressing confidence that the Polytechnic is firmly on the path of sustainable growth and encouraging the management to sustain the impressive momentum.
Adding historical depth to the memorable ceremony, the pioneer Rector of the institution, Alhaji Abdulkadir Usman, took the audience on a nostalgic journey through the humble beginnings of Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, from its establishment in the 1980s. His reflections reminded everyone that every great institution begins with a vision and grows through sacrifice, commitment, and purposeful leadership.
The event was graced by an array of distinguished traditional rulers and respected personalities, including the Dagacin Zungeru, the Hakimin Akare represented by Mallam Matajiya, the Hakimin Sabon Gari, the Mai Arewa Ibelu of Ibeto, the Naisan Hakimin Karkaran Wushishi, among several other royal fathers whose presence added colour, dignity, and prestige to the historic occasion.
As part of the day's activities, the Digital Rector personally led the distinguished guests and dignitaries on an inspection tour of several completed and ongoing developmental projects across the Polytechnic. The visitors witnessed firsthand the remarkable infrastructural transformation and innovative projects executed under his administration, further affirming the institution's impressive progress over the past four years.
Indeed, the ceremony was far more than a celebration of a reappointment. It was a celebration of visionary leadership, resilience, unity, innovation, continuity, and hope for a brighter future.
It reaffirmed the collective commitment of the Polytechnic community to build upon existing achievements and continue advancing excellence in academics, research, entrepreneurship, community service, and digital transformation.
