When people ask what we do, it often leads to eye-opening conversations.

One reality that many people find shocking is that some victims are tattooed as a form of branding, ownership, or control.

Last week, I attended a law enforcement conference where images of these tattoos were shown alongside many other horrible realities of exploitation. I immediately felt I wanted to share some of this here on our timeline, so more people can recognize what these markings may look like and understand how they are categorized.

Exploitation is often hidden in plain sight.

Waarom moet jij erbij zijn op 3 juni?

De urgentie van dit onderwerp is bijna niet over te brengen in een simpel bericht.

De manier waarop de seksindustrie zich ontwikkelt, zeker online, gaat sneller dan veel ouders, jeugdleiders en kerken beseffen.

Wist je dat veel mensen die worstelen met p***o of met de drang om seksueel getinte content te delen, denken dat dit simpelweg hun eigen “vieze” probleem of persoonlijke schuld is?

Maar dit onderwerp is zóveel complexer dan dat.

We hebben te maken met een industrie die heel bewust inspeelt op schaamte, gedrag, kwetsbaarheid en normalisatie. Juist daarom is bewustwording alleen niet genoeg. We moeten begrijpen wat er werkelijk speelt én leren hoe we daarop moeten reageren.

Op 3 juni duiken we hier samen in.

Daarnaast deelt Klaas van Denderen een praktische boodschap die je direct kunt toepassen binnen jouw kerk of jeugdgroep.

Op 3 juni keert Stay With Me terug naar de prachtige locatie in Tribe Haarlem!

Wij organiseren een toerustingsavond voor kerk- en jeugdleiders waarin jullie meegenomen worden in de realiteit van vandaag de dag binnen de seksindustrie.

Vanuit diepgaande praktijkervaring zien wij hoe p***ografie en online seksuele content steeds meer levens beïnvloeden, met ingrijpende gevolgen voor mannen, vrouwen, jongens en meisjes.

Wat deze avond onderscheidt, is dat we verder gaan dan wat vaak al bekend is. We delen actuele inzichten die laten zien hoe deze industrie werkelijk werkt en hoe mensen hierin worden meegenomen, vaak terwijl ze in schaamte denken dat het hun eigen schuld is.

En juist daar ligt een cruciale rol voor de kerk. Om schaamte te doorbreken en een veilige plek te bieden waar alles bespreekbaar is!

Tijdens deze avond worden jullie toegerust met concrete handvatten om dit onderwerp op een veilige en effectieve manier bespreekbaar te maken binnen jullie gemeente.

Daarnaast zal Klaas van Denderen een krachtige boodschap delen over het vrijkomen van schaamte, met praktische toepassing, in het bijzonder voor jongeren.

Research shows how important outreach is in helping women leave the s*x industry.

Earlier this year, I attended a reading by the Institute for Survivor Care.

They addressed a question we hear often from those on the outside looking in:

“Why doesn’t she just leave?”

In trafficking situations, most chains are not physical, but mental.

The study presented during the reading tackled this question, seeking to understand what keeps someone in exploitation and what actually leads to exit.

One thing stood out to me:

The importance of outreach.

189 survivors who exited the s*x industry were interviewed. Each of them made the decision to leave on their own.

When asked why they left:
- 54.5% said they saw an opportunity.

When asked what they needed most to exit:
- 66.7% said relational support. Someone to talk to. Encouragement.
- 38% said they were looking for a program.

This is exactly where outreach comes in.

Outreach creates that opportunity.
Outreach is where relationships begin.
Outreach is what connects women to the help they are already looking for.

When asked what outreach should look like, they said:

“Be in the dark places.”
“Hit the pavements and look for victims.”
“Drive around hotel areas. You can tell who needs help.”
“Less moral high ground, more compassion without pity.”

That is outreach.
That is LINE 24, our flagship outreach project launching in 2027.

2 million questionable ads of adult solicitation in just 2 counties, in one day.

For context, the greater Orlando area is home to around 2.5 million people.

And then we see 2 million ads connected to buying or selling s*x… In one day!

And then to think that no matter what our data points to, because of the hidden nature of human s*x trafficking, it’s always bigger than that.

Human s*x trafficking is one of the most urgent issues of our time, and it’s growing by the minute.

UPDATE

Introducing the Stay With Me Working Group

For some time now, my heart has been burdened by the way the s*x industry is developing. It’s growing like never before. And while those of us in the field understand why, getting that insight to the people who can create real change requires a system.

And Stay With Me wouldn’t be who she is without building that system.

So, we’ve created the Stay With Me Working Group.

Over the last few years, the s*x industry has shifted rapidly into the online world. This doesn’t replace what already existed, but it does introduce a new layer of exploitation that is still widely misunderstood.

With this working group, we bring together expertise from different parts of the field to better understand how this shift operates in practice.

Online platforms are explored in depth, lived experience is carefully gathered, and these insights are translated into what those in positions to make a difference need to see.

The goal is simple: clarity that leads to action!

We’ve completed four meetings, with many more ahead, working with experts in my home country. All insights will be brought back to the U.S. and shared with selected professionals.

We’ve raised 10k+ for our cause at SWM’s first fundraiser in collaboration with Casa de Blanca Tattoo ♥️

To see so many people come together, creating art in all its forms for the women out there who are stuck in a life we fight so hard to help them out of… it honestly blows our mind.

When Blanca first came to my house, she handed me a drawing she made after hearing me speak about our mission the week before. She felt so inspired that she created this image of a powerful woman (seen in the second photo), and that night we dreamed up Marked by Choice.

A night where we flipped the script.

In the world of human trafficking, many victims are marked through tattoos to show they belong to their trafficker. We wanted to take that word back. To create a night where being marked stood for something different, something chosen, something healing.

We believe the artists of Orlando will play a huge role in fighting s*x trafficking, because art has always been, and always will be, a way to heal.
