Sea turtles can tell us more about the ocean than we might think. 🌊🐢

Each sea turtle species interacts with marine ecosystems in a unique way, helping scientists understand the health and balance of our oceans. From coral reefs and seagrass meadows to vast open-ocean migration routes, sea turtles serve as important indicators of ecosystem health around the world.

By learning how to identify different sea turtle species, we can better understand their behaviors, habitats, and the challenges they face. Every sighting, observation, and piece of data helps build a clearer picture of the marine environments they depend on and how those environments are changing.

The more we learn about sea turtles, the better equipped we are to protect them and the ecosystems they call home. 🌎💙

Tuesday June 23, we had the opportunity to participate in the MED HUB Congress in Cartagena, Spain, part of the MED HUBS initiative focused on strengthening the Mediterranean blue economy ecosystem. The event, organized within the MED HUBS project by DEEP Ecosystems and its partners, brought together investors, innovators, policymakers, and organizations working at the intersection of technology, sustainability, and the blue economy across the Mediterranean region.

Beyond the inspiring conversations, the event provided valuable validation for some of the challenges and opportunities we are exploring at Marimap.
A few key takeaways stood out:

🌊 Commercial viability matters. Impact alone is not enough, solutions need a clear path to adoption, revenue, and long-term sustainability.

🤝 Collaboration is a competitive advantage. Strong ecosystems and partnerships, especially across Mediterranean countries, often create more value than working in isolation.

📊 Data accessibility remains a major challenge. While marine data is increasingly available, interoperability, standardization, and data-sharing barriers continue to limit its potential.

🌍 Healthy oceans are not just an environmental priority, they are an economic necessity. The conversation is shifting from “saving the ocean” to understanding the economic and vital risks of not doing so, particularly in regions like the Mediterranean where marine ecosystems are under increasing pressure.

We’re leaving the congress with new ideas, valuable connections, and an even clearer understanding of how technology can help unlock the value of marine data for conservation, research, and decision-making.
A huge thank you to the organizers, speakers, and everyone who took the time to share their insights and perspectives.

🌍 From Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean, we share one mission.

Every member of our team experiences the ocean from a different corner of the world. We explore tropical reefs, Mediterranean coastlines, and Indian Ocean ecosystems, learning from their unique challenges, biodiversity, and stories.

These diverse perspectives remind us that no two marine ecosystems are the same, and neither are their conservation needs.

That’s why at Reef Support, we build technology grounded in real-world experience, field observations, and local knowledge. By understanding the ocean through its differences, we can create solutions that truly reflect the realities of the ecosystems we aim to protect.

Because meaningful innovation starts with listening, learning, and understanding🩵

Across the world, researchers, NGOs, governments, and conservation projects are collecting incredible amounts of marine data. Yet too often, that information remains scattered, difficult to access, or underutilized.

At MariMap, we’re working to change that.
We’re building a platform that helps transform marine biodiversity data into something more useful, accessible, and actionable.

As we continue developing MariMap, we’re looking to connect with:
🧑🏻‍🔬Researchers and conservation professionals interested in testing the platform.
🌎Organizations looking for better ways to manage and visualize marine data.
🧑🏻‍💼Investors who believe in the intersection of technology, conservation, and impact.
🪸People who share our vision and want to help turn this idea into a tool that serves the global ocean community.

We’re at a stage where conversations matter. Feedback matters. Connections matter. If you’d like to learn more, collaborate, test the platform, or support our growth, we’d love to hear from you.

As biodiversity markets, blue carbon projects, and nature-based investments continue to grow, so does the need for credible environmental evidence.

Today, organizations can claim to be sustainable, nature-positive, or biodiversity-friendly. But without standardized, measurable, and verifiable data, those claims remain difficult to validate.

This challenge is especially significant in marine ecosystems, where monitoring is complex and environmental outcomes are often difficult to quantify.

Without transparent measurement frameworks:
• Investors cannot assess impact.
• Policymakers cannot make informed decisions.
• Conservation outcomes cannot be verified.
• Greenwashing becomes harder to detect.

This is why platforms like MariMap matter.
By transforming fragmented marine data into standardized, accessible, and verifiable information, MariMap helps create the transparency needed to support conservation finance, biodiversity credits, ecosystem monitoring, and evidence-based decision-making🪸

Mangrove ecosystems generate critical ecological and climate data, but collecting, organizing, and standardizing that information across monitoring programs remains is still one of the main challenges. 🌿📊

MariMap enables researchers and conservation teams to conduct structured mangrove assessments through standardized digital surveys and long-term ecosystem monitoring.

The platform supports the collection of key ecological indicators including:
• Habitat composition and substrate condition
• Fish community assessments
• Invertebrate biodiversity monitoring
• Spatial and temporal ecosystem change tracking

By centralizing field data into one platform, MariMap helps improve data consistency, accessibility, and analysis for science-based conservation and restoration efforts.

Built for researchers, NGOs, marine protected areas, and monitoring initiatives working to better understand coastal ecosystems through scalable ocean data infrastructure.

Not all sharks are the same 🦈
Some are shy, some are curious, some stay deep, and others cruise through coral reefs.
Learning to tell them apart changes the way you see the ocean.

Because when you understand their behavior, you stop fearing them… and start loving them. 🌊

Can you guess which shark this is? 👀
