👏 Mr. Ashok Kumar Byanju Shrestha, Immediate Past President of UCLG ASPAC - United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific and Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN), led the session as Chair with powerful reflections on political leadership, real fiscal trade offs, and decision making at the local level—bringing reality straight into the room.

Join us on 9 April 2026 from 13:45 – 15:15 HRS (NST) for an engaging discussion in an IWA webinar titled “CWIS Current Status and Future Priorities: Insights from Asia” where Sudha Shrestha, NPO/WASH - UN-Habitat Nepal (the Secretariat of CWISAN), is part of panelists representing academia, cities, development partners, regulators and utilities working on urban sanitation across Asia.
The session will explore how Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) is being understood and implemented across South and South-East Asia, while sharing regional insights on what is working, key challenges, and opportunities to strengthen sustainable urban sanitation beyond 2030.

🙏 Thank You for an Inspiring Dialogue on Urban Sanitation Finance!
UN-Habitat Nepal as the Secretariat of CWISAN sincerely thank all participants of the workshop “Unlocking Urban Sanitation Finance: Gaps, Models, and Scalable Inclusive Solutions”, held on 2 April 2026 during the Global South WASH Financing & Sustainability Conference at The Plaza Convention Center.
Chaired by Mr. Ramakanta Dawadi (MoWS, GoN), the session highlighted that sanitation remains underfunded and stressed the need to focus on functionality, sustainability, and adequate operation & maintenance (O&M). The Chair also called for stronger behaviour change initiatives to engage political leadership and unlock greater financing for sanitation.
👏 Thank you to all speakers and participants for contributing to this important dialogue on advancing inclusive and sustainable urban sanitation.

Today, at the IWA Water & Development Congress & Exhibition (WDCE) in Bangkok (Thailand), we hosted the workshop:
“Come Together: The Challenges of an Alliance on Safe Sanitation”
A big THANK YOU to:
- Our Program Chair, distinguished speakers, and panelists from Nepal, Bangladesh & India
- Special Invitee, Roshan Raj Shrestha of Gates Foundation for inspiring us to support political leadership and optimize resources.
- Mayor Narulal Chaudhary (General Secretary of नेपाल नगरपालिका संघ & Mayor of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City) and Ms. Pramila Bajracharya for sharing Nepal’s transformative sanitation journey.
- Colleagues from FSM Network Bangladesh (Practical Action in Bangladesh) and NFSSM Alliance India (Dasra) for enriching the regional dialogue.
- All CWISAN members who joined us live from UN-Habitat Nepal Office in Kathmandu.
