I will never not ever eat a tomato by Lauren Child (picture book)

Catalogue link: https://bit.ly/4urFxX5

Sometimes Charlie looks after his little sister Lola (she is small and very funny), and giving her dinner can be a challenge because she can be a very fussy eater. She won’t eat carrots (because they’re for rabbits), or peas (because they’re too small and green), or loads of other vegetables. Lola is determined to avoid her veges, but Charlie has a cunning plan. Those orange things aren’t carrots, they’re orange twiglets from Jupiter. Those green things aren’t peas, they’re green drops from Greenland. Charlie’s cunning plan seems to be working, but can he get Lola to eat a tomato? If you are trying to encourage your fussy eater to try different foods them this is the book for you – featuring the fabulous Charlie and Lola.

No matter how big or how small we are our hearts hold many different feelings, and part of growing up is learning to recognise those feelings and deal with them – good or bad. This picture book brings those emotions to life by matching them with colours and giving examples of what those feelings may look and feel like. Perfect for reading one-on-one with your little person, or to a group of older preschoolers, this book will help you introduce some very big feelings. There is also a section for parents and teachers at the back to help make the most out of the book by exploring the feelings the children have been introduced to.

Then she was gone by Lisa Jewell (crime)

Catalogue link: https://bit.ly/4eGX0BV

Ellie Mack walked out the door on her way to the library ten years ago and vanished. There was plenty of interest when she disappeared, but once the Police labelled her a runaway everyone forgot about her. Her mother Laurel could never move on, which caused a rift with her two remaining children. When Ellie’s remains are found Laurel has to cope with the knowledge she will never see her golden girl again. It’s no surprise that Laurel is quickly swept up rather quickly by the charming and charismatic man who crosses her path at a local café. Floyd is intelligent, interesting, and has a daughter named Poppy who has an uncanny resemblance to Ellie. Swept off her feet in a whirlwind romance, Laurel takes chances and starts to blossom again, and the more time she spends with Floyd and Poppy the more she sees a resemblance with her missing daughter. As she starts poking around in their lives, Laurel uncovers some startling connections to her own life and that of Ellie - and soon she will make the most startling discovery of all.

The night ends with fire by K.X. Song (fantasy)

Catalogue link: https://bit.ly/4ujfuRE

Meilin’s world is one of tradition and filial loyalty, a daughter must obey the wishes and demands of her father until she marries, and then she must obey her husband instead. Meilin desires her freedom more than anything else, and when her father refuses to answer the imperial draft Meilin abandons her family (and the violent husband her father has promised her to) and joins the army in his stead. If she is discovered it would mean death or imprisonment, but her freedom and growing friendships make the risk worth every moment. What Meilin doesn’t know is that she is destined for a greater fate, one that will see her forge relationships with princes from warring kingdoms. With forbidden magic coursing through her body, Meilin must make choices that will change not just her fate – but the fate of the world. Book one in a two book fantasy series that retells the legend of Mulan.
