Blood like mine by Stuart Neville (horror)

Catalogue link: https://bit.ly/4akJjIL

FBI Special Agent Marc Donner has been tracking a serial killer for two years, a serial killer most of his fellow agents don’t believe is real, and even those that do aren’t in a rush to catch them. The serial killer in question uses the same techniques as Marc and his team do to find child predators online, but instead of bringing them to justice the killer lures them to a meet and then slashes their throats and drains them of blood. This case is Marc’s obsession, and has already cost him his marriage and a relationship with his daughters. On the other side of this game of cat-and-mouse is Rebecca Carter and her daughter Monica, better known by her nickname of Moonflower. Rebecca and Moonflower are constantly on the move, always looking for the next predator to feed a hunger in Moonflower that continues to grow. It is a race against time, and Marc has no idea what he is really dealing with. The first book in a trilogy.

For a young boy nothing is going right – it’s raining when he doesn’t want it to be, his dad blames him for milk on the floor, he takes a tumble on the way to school, and it just keeps on going downhill. With each new thing he starts feeling glum, and when he finally makes it home and his dad gives him a cuddle the dam bursts and the tears flow. He lets out all the big feelings he has been holding onto all day in a flood of tears that make him feel so much better. An endearing picture book (with charming illustrations from the fabulous Heath McKenzie) that will help little people deal with some very big emotions.

The forsaken by Matt Rogers (action)

Catalogue link: https://bit.ly/4jMnUwn

For ten years Logan Booth thought he was fighting the good fight, taking down the bad guys as a vigilante working outside the government – nearly a year ago he found out that wasn’t the case, that he was really working for the CIA. Feeling lost and manipulated, Logan has been adrift in a never ending of drinking alcohol and planning his own death. All that changes when his best friend dies in front of him, killed for knowing the wrong things about the wrong people. There is more than one life at stake though, a drug addict named Alice knew about the plan and now she also has a target on her back. The only way to save Alice’s life is to hunt down the man responsible for it all – no easy task, even with a decade of experience and skill for Logan to draw on. Logan and Alice are in a race for their lives, an adrenaline soaked ride of deception, danger, and maybe a little redemption.

A serial killer’s guide to marriage by Asia Mackay (crime)

Catalogue link: https://bit.ly/4rG1mjN

When Hazel and Fox met it was love at first murder – though to be fair, the man they killed was a bad man trying to do bad things to Hazel. Their whirlwind romance turned into marriage and a mission across Europe, researching the bad guys and taking them down one-by-one. That all changed when Hazel suddenly found herself pregnant, and just as suddenly their wings were clipped to protect their daughter Bibi. Going cold turkey isn’t easy for either of them and the strain is starting to show. With both Fox and Hazel keeping secrets it’s only a matter of time before their carefully crafted façade of the perfect married couple starts to crumble. Will they be able to resist temptation, or will one of them slip and bring them both down? An engrossing thriller with twists and turns that will keep you on your toes – perfect for readers who like some humour with their murder and mayhem.

Too old for this by Samantha Downing (crime)

Catalogue link: https://bit.ly/45WE0xE

Lottie Jones didn’t plan on killing anyone (else), but when Plum Dixon knocks on her door and says she is making a docuseries about Lottie and her wrongful conviction she really has no choice. Plum really made the decision for her, with her confidence about making the series and not taking no for an answer. Lottie is happy with her life, she doesn’t want her friends and neighbours to know she was once known as Lorna Mae Lansdale – and Lorna was accused of murdering at least three people. As Lottie deals with Plums remains, and the surprising consequences of her actions, she comes to realise that she really is getting too old for this. What could have been a dark and gruesome crime instead turns into a comedy of errors with Lottie trying to stay one step ahead of the consequences of her actions – and the people in her life who only want what is best for her but seem to get in the way instead.
