Not every step forward looks dramatic.
Sometimes it’s just a small moment that helps things click again.
One of our ākonga was returning to class after months of disrupted schooling. They genuinely wanted to be there they just needed a bit of time to settle back in.
Our Case Manager picked up on that straight away. Instead of forcing what might have felt unnatural at first, they headed out to the court, shot a few hoops, had a bit of a laugh, and gave things room to breathe before heading back in.
Moments like that don’t look big from the outside, but they’re often the turning points.
That’s what child-centred, solution-focused work really is: paying attention, staying flexible, and finding the approach that helps a young person feel safe enough to try again.
