📌 The Tairawhiti Community Commissioning Working Group submitted its final Community Commissioning proposal to the Social Investment Agency on 12 June 2026. The proposal is now available to read.

The proposal reflects months of work and the contributions, feedback, questions, and ideas shared by organisations, iwi, providers, and community members throughout the engagement process. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate and help shape the proposal.

📅 What happens next?
ㅤ
The proposal will now move through the Social Investment Agency's assessment process:
ㅤ
▪ June 2026 – Initial evaluation and assessment of Community-led Commissioning proposals
▪ June–July 2026 – Presentations and wānanga with shortlisted applicants
▪ July 2026 – Evaluation panel moderation
▪ August 2026 – Ministerial decisions on shortlisted proposals and notification of outcomes
▪ August 2026 – March 2027 – Discovery and Design Phase for successful applicants
▪ January – March 2027 – Request for Proposal process for shortlisted organisations
▪ July 2027 – Discovery and Design Funding Agreement(s) awarded

📢 Tairawhiti Community Commissioning Establishment Board Confirmedㅤ

On 7 June 2026, the inaugural shareholders of Tairawhiti Community Commissioning Limited met to adopt the Constitution and the Shareholders Agreement and elect the Establishment Board of Directors.
ㅤㅤ
The meeting formed part of the establishment process to enable the legal incorporation of the company.
ㅤㅤ
The following directors were elected to the Establishment Board:

The Establishment Board has been elected for an initial six-month term. On 10 December 2026, the full shareholder base will have the opportunity to elect a Board of five directors for longer-term governance.
ㅤ
Tranche 2 shareholding is now open until 30 September 2026, providing an opportunity for additional eligible organisations to become shareholders in the community-owned charitable company.

The Tairawhiti Community Commissioning Working Group has today published its response to a series of questions submitted by Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou (TRONPnui) regarding the Tairawhiti Community Commissioning proposal.
⠀
The Working Group was invited by TRONPnui to present the proposal on 26 May 2026. Following that meeting, TRONPnui advised that it would provide a series of questions for the Working Group to respond to.

The questions were received on 1 June 2026, and the Working Group's response was provided on 3 June 2026.

Given the level of public interest in this matter, the response is being shared publicly in the interests of transparency and to make the information available to the wider community.

Round 3 hui are being held in Tūranga this Thursday, with Round 2 follow-up hui continuing across the East Coast.

📌 The Social Investment Agency has now opened the Community Commissioning Expression of Interest process.
⠀
There will be three phases for this opportunity:
⠀
▫️Expression of Interest – an open EOI process running from 14 May to 12 June 2026, followed by a Wānanga Phase and the selection of up to two local areas in July 2026.
⠀
▫️Discovery and Design Phase – funding and support for up to two local areas to develop a Full Proposal (August 2026 to March 2027).
⠀
▫️Request for Full Proposal – for shortlisted organisations (January to March 2027).
⠀
👉🏽 The Tairawhiti Community Commissioning working group continues to progress the regional proposal ahead of the 12 June submission deadline.
⠀
A further round of engagement hui and process updates will be announced shortly, including the release and sharing of the final Tairawhiti Community Commissioning EOI proposal.
