Northland unfortunately has some of the worst youth well-being statistics overall in NZ, and in the developed world.

If we don’t think about education.
If we don’t think about racism.
If we don’t think about child harm.

If we don’t think about equity and inclusion.

If we don’t address all these as a community wellbeing priority, then we will hold on to our statistics for having the worst Youth Su***de statistics across the OECD and EU countries.

A vote that doesn’t address all the above means a vote for more pain, more harm, more prisons, more trauma, more death.

A kai box is never going to solve the problem.

Our Christmas Kai Boxes include fresh meat, veggies, pantry staples, cleaning and hygiene basics with a simple recipe book using ingredients in the box. It’s enough to sustain a family for a couple of weeks with one more protein top up.

That’s not solving the food insecurity problem AT ALL. It is however, relieving some stress and creating space to share joy and connection at Christmas.

It’s not much.
But it is.
Both things are true.
$200 feeds a family.
And every $10 helps!

Our kids should not be worried about food. But in the Far North thousands of children are. And let’s not judge with harsh criticism of caregivers. In some cases we can all make better choices. But what does Dignity have to do with it?

Dignity means the state or quality of being worthy of honor, respect, or inherent value as a person.
When we feel unseen and unvalued, dignity is hard to hold onto.
Self respect -dignity can keep us from sinking into dark places.

We believe everyone deserves to be seen and valued. And sometimes a pack of goodies delivers exactly that message. “We see you. We care about you. We value you. “

Right now we’re busy trying to raise funds for our Christmas Project to help whānau share some joy together,so money is tight. When we had some emergency requests this week, we made a call to our Angel friends at Hospice Mid-Northland to check stocks there.
They made up these cute-as individual packages of clothes and toys for us!
Such a heart lifting and unexpected gesture. 🥰
