The Stone Store New Zealand

The Stone Store New Zealand Kerikeri Mission Station, home to two of Aotearoa New Zealand’s oldest buildings. The Stone Store began trading in 1836 and continues to trade today.

Kerikeri Mission Station is home to two of New Zealand’s oldest buildings; the Stone Store and Kemp House. Upstairs from the trading floor you will find an interactive museum. Kemp House was built amidst turbulence and war, under the protection of Māori chief Hongi Hika of nearby Kororipo Pā. Kemp House can be viewed on tour, where the guides bring to life stories of the first relationships forged

between Māori and missionaries. Guided Tours of Kemp House depart daily from the Stone Store. A tour ticket includes access to the Stone Store museum which is self-guided. Neither the Stone Store nor Kemp House is wheelchair accessible. While you're here, enjoy the heritage roses, the riverbank orchard and English ‘cottage garden’ flowerbeds that encircle this historic site. New Zealand’s oldest European-style garden is a 5-star Garden of National Significance. The Honey House Café is situated near the footbridge, on the riverbank.

Kia ora koutou,

'Let's Talk - Korero Mai' at the Honey House Cafe.
246 Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri 0230.
The Kerikeri Mission Station.
Our fifth twilight event is on Monday 22nd June 2026 from 6pm - 8pm.
The theme is: Take a Break

Stories about the moments we step back, slow down, or sneak off. That morning tea break that turns into a heart-to-heart, a break-up that forces you to finally exhale or a five-minute coffee break that saves your sanity. Maybe it’s a flash of freedom – kicking a ball in the sun, laughter, scraped knees, and grass stains. Because sometimes the best parts of life happen when you just take a small break.

Come and join us this month, we'd love to see you. Bring along your whanau and friends. Cabinet food and hot / cold beverages will be available for purchase at each event. A gold coin donation would be greatly appreciated, and these funds will go towards our reroofing project for Kemp House.

To RSVP or for more information email: [email protected].

Kia ora koutou,

We’re delighted to share once again, that the Honey House Café Book Club will be returning on 29 June 2026.

This year, our 6 x monthly gatherings on the last Monday of each month, will take on a slightly different format — introducing 'The Book Club Members Monthly Pick'.
Each month, everyone is invited to choose a book from their own 'To Be Read' or ' Already Read' list. It’s a chance to finally dive into something you’ve been meaning to read, have already read or perhaps something a little outside your usual choice.

At each relaxed monthly gathering, members will be given the opportunity to:
- Share a short excerpt
- Describe their book
- Give a brief “pitch” to the group
It’s a lovely way to discover new reads through each other’s tastes — without the need for everyone to read the same book.
We look forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces to this year’s gatherings.

Event Details:
📅 Last Monday of each month from June - Nov 2026.
⏰ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
📍 Honey House Cafe - 246 Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri 0230
☕ Tea, coffee, mulled wine, cabinet food and sweet slices will be available for purchase.

2026 Meeting Dates:
- 29th June
- 27th July
- 31st August
- 28th September
- 26th October
- 30th November
Cost: Free entry. A gold coin donation would be greatly appreciated and will go towards the upkeep of our historical heritage properties at Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga.

Kia ora koutou,

Kerikeri Mission Station back in 1974 – the year the mission house (better known as Kemp House, on the right) was generously gifted to us by Ernest Kemp.

As you may know, we're currently fundraising for vital repairs to Kemp House. Despite the high quality of materials and labour that went into its construction back in the 1820s, time and increasingly severe weather events have taken their toll.

The need for these repairs is urgent and we're hoping to get started ASAP. If you'd like to find out how you can donate (or if you'd like to know more about the project), please head over to our official appeal page. https://www.heritage.org.nz/donate/raise-the-roof

For everyone who has supported the appeal already – thank you!

📸Thanks also to Auckland Libraries for the image. The photo is part of the fantastic J.B. Rowntree Collection (Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections 1528-74010).
