I reckon it's pretty safe to say a three year plan isn't that useful when we all need some common-sense results right now.

When we say taking practical local steps to support with food, this is the sort of thing council should be encouraging in Napier. Well done and thanks to the Nevertheless Trust for the plug and St. Pierres!

Kia Ora Napier Central residents! Yes, that means if you're living anywhere from Marewa, Onekawa, Maraenui, Pirimai or Tamatea like me - I am running to be your voice at Napier City Council in October.

Let's cut to the chase. We all feel the current financial stresses and how this seriously affects us right now, so I think it's about time someone steps in to do things differently.

With rates skyrocketing, all we see from council are the usual bureaucrats and professional politicians telling us how they're SPENDING our money for three years, but no-one is finding practical immediate solutions on how to SAVE our money right NOW.

Let's focus on the essentials. Right now, most people are most affected by the three key Hs:

* Hunger
* Health
* Homes

That's the priority. People are struggling to put food on the table, seeing a health professional and having a safe and affordable roof over their heads.

But, right now, around a THIRD of your council rates go towards things that can be funded in other ways instead.

Why, right now, should your council rates fund buildings, grants, staff, facilities or vanity projects that you either don't use, can't use and can instead be funded privately for those that DO use them?

I am campaigning on a simple, logical and common-sense action policy for our needs NOW.

I propose a temporal moratorium to pause and re-review ANY council spending that does not directly or indirectly prioritise YOUR health, home or hunger FIRST.

That means, affording to feed your whānau, having a safe and affordable place to call home, or being healthy and preventing harm.

For that, we need someone who KNOWS what that feels like. Although adequately qualified and competent, I will not be wasting anyone's time showboating my ego with a ream of professional credentials like other candidates, instead - I'm more interested in YOU.

It's time to have someone at council that's personally experiencing the same sort of burdens you feel right now.

We CAN and will in time rebuild and reinvest in our community in many different ways, but just NOT at the expense of our quality of life NOW.

Vote Dave Jarvis for Napier Central General Ward and you will get just that. Less hui, more do-ey. Contact me at: [email protected] or on social media anytime for updates @ https://www.facebook.com/share/1RRLgTCSB9/
