Dudley Park - Rangiora

Dudley Park - Rangiora Dudley Park was developed by the Rangiora Borough Council as a public sports ground in the 1920s and named after a former owner of the land, Archdeacon Dudley.

It was officially opened in May 1928 when two football games and two hockey games were played

Seriously frustrated that some people think it’s acceptable to vandalise areas that are clearly marked off.

Dudley Park is a massive community space, and the small sections fenced off for the cricket blocks wouldn’t even make up 5% of the whole park. These areas are there for a reason and for those who think it’s “no big deal” to damage them, you need to be held accountable.

Some of you might look at the photos and think it’s minor damage, but as you can see from the last photo, “minor” quickly turns into a full rebuild. These surfaces need to be even and smooth, when they’re gouged out like this, it completely affects how the ball behaves. Imagine it hitting those indents and popping up unpredictably, it’s unsafe and ruins the game.

This doesn’t just affect a couple of players it affects the entire Rangiora community. Repairs get charged back to the council, which means we all end up paying for someone else’s careless behaviour.

So if you’ve got kids or teenagers regularly using Dudley Park, maybe have a conversation with them. Because one day that scooter or bike they’re riding over restricted areas could end up under a 5-tonne roller.

Respect the space. Respect the community.

We’d like to take a moment to address some ongoing damage at Dudley Park. Unfortunately, a small group of boys riding electric bikes, scooters and motorbikes have caused significant damage to a clearly marked‑off area.

The impacted strip alone will cost around $400 to repair, not including labour as I'ma volunteer. Because of the extent of the damage, these repairs will now need to wait until Spring. While some of the marks may look minor, many are 5–10mm deep, and those areas will not recover or grow grass without proper repair.

We understand that kids enjoy being outdoors and having fun, and that’s something we fully support. However, riding through restricted areas doesn’t just affect the park now, it delays its recovery and enjoyment for the wider community.

To help prevent further damage, additional cameras have been installed. Should those responsible be identified, repair costs may be passed on to parents, and all incidents are being reported to Police as vandalism, in line with our obligations.

We kindly ask parents to speak with their children about respecting shared spaces and the rules in place, so Dudley Park can remain a safe and enjoyable area for everyone.

Thank you to the many families who help look after this space, we truly appreciate your support.

Great to see progress well underway at Dudley Park on the two new fields! With numbers expected to grow next year, these extra pitches will make a huge difference in easing the pressure on our grounds.

Big thanks to Ready Lawn for the fantastic work, the laser levelling process has been awesome to watch in action!

Its official. Home final at Dudley Park - Rangiora Rangiora Cricket Club/Oxford Cricket Club vs Ohoka Cricket Club for the 3rd grade final. How good will this be.

1pm start, boys putting on a BBQ after the game so pop on down.

Free admission, bring a chair, grab a spot and sit back and enjoy the show.

Alright team, quick heads up. Some spots copped over 4 inches of rain, and now the sun’s decided to crank things up — perfect conditions if we were trying to grow jungle outfields. So yeah… things are a bit on the lush side.

Our mowing crew is giving it everything they’ve got, but even they can’t turn rainforest into fairway overnight. So no giving them grief — they’re doing their best and probably getting more steps in than all of us combined.

What does this mean for you? Fewer fours, more twos and threes… and maybe the odd “did that even leave the square?” moment. Think of it as fitness training disguised as cricket.

This won’t sort itself in a week, so bear with us over the next few rounds. The outfields will be longer than usual — but hey, at least you can blame the grass for not middling one.

This is incredibly disheartening. As a volunteer, I put in a lot of time and effort and it costs me personally as well to keep things running smoothly. After all the work that went into fixing the last mess a bike rider caused, now I’m starting over again.

We’ve already lost one strip that’s out of action for the rest of the year.

This isn’t just frustrating; it’s a huge cost to the club. The rolling required to repair damage like this triples compared to normal maintenance, not to mention the hours it takes.

I won’t post a photo, but if your child has an electric bike and wears a downhill or motocross helmet, I’d really appreciate having a chat. I'm not saying this person is the culprit but a person who maybe able to assist.

So frustrated and annoyed and thats being polite. Do some people not realise the time and effort that volunteers go to and the costs involved. Parents pay for their children's subs of which part is to pay for pitch preparations so they can enjoy their sport.

Will be checking with council today as their are cameras that point towards the pitch area. Once I have the person/s this will be reported to police as vandalism.

🌳 Friends of Dudley Park – Community Interest Post 🌳

I'm exploring the idea of forming a “Friends of Dudley Park” community group and I'd love to know if you’re interested!

Did you know 150th anniversary of the Borough of Rangiora coming up in 2028, this is a perfect time to celebrate our heritage and work together to enhance one of Rangiora’s most loved green spaces for current and future generations.

The vision:
A community-led group that helps protect, beautify, and develop Dudley Park through volunteering, environmental projects, events, and supporting recreation for all ages.
This group would bring together locals of all ages, including retirees, environmental enthusiasts, families, and anyone who loves Dudley Park.

🌟 Would you be interested in joining or supporting this?
