Come on down, grab a drink and tell us about you policy concerns.

• Is it the worrying influence of lobbying and donations on political decision-making?
• Is it the cost of living and the receding hope of the next-generation owning a home?
• Is it the impact of short-term economic thinking on our environment?

We look forward to meeting you there to chew over the big issues facing NZ. Bring your friends!

Rates caps - they might look good on Wayne but are they a good idea?

We don't think so.

They simply kick our infrastructure cans down the road, meanwhile households save the equivalent of a can of baked beans a month.

Kiwi households are certainly under cost of living pressures though - which is why we support implementing the full Ratepayer Assistance Scheme which softens the impact of rates increases while still allowing Councils to make the investments in our roads, parks, and pipes that we so desperately need.

Opportunity backs local government.

We will not support ACT’s plan to abolish the Climate Change Commission.

There’s nothing efficient about removing independent scrutiny just because the advice might be inconvenient.

If National needs Opportunity to form a government in November, we’ll be clear about where we stand. ACT won’t get our support to dismantle our climate institutions or undo environmental progress. Independent advice matters, particularly when it’s telling governments something they don’t want to hear.

We want practical, market-based climate action that supports clean technology, innovation and a more productive economy, while protecting the environment New Zealanders depend on.

If we have influence around the next government table, environmental responsibility will be part of the deal.
