“What's my background and my South Waikato connection”?
I have lived in this community on and off for almost 40 years, starting my working career at Warnocks in Leith Place before getting roles at Hutt Timber
(Huttloc) on Browning street. From there, to CHH Reman group, followed by the start of my corporate career with CHH Woodproducts.
I then had a few roles as a business adviser for government organisations, including safer city projects throughout NZ, before being invited to work for an international geothermal company.
Based in Manila my role was CEO and President, for Asia Pacific. This included a number of turn-key geothermal power projects across Asia and in NZ. Alongside this role, I also ran / advised on 14 projects around the world, including the super critical power projects in Iceland.
After living and working in Iceland, I returned to NZ for my family. My wife Claire and I decided to purchase our forever home in Tokoroa & grow our small charity to give back to the community that first gave me my opportunities.
We established our small business, Coffee & Cakeaway, as well as a cafe in Rotorua. These supported our charity (supporting critically & terminally ill children). I continue to troubleshoot issues for a number of international companies from home.
I believe the South Waikato is an amazing place with so much going for it. Yes we have some opportunities to improve on in a number of areas, however speaking from experience having lived all over the world - I know we are truly fortunate and at this stage in my life there is no better place I would want to live.
So what do I bring to the table,
International business experience, best outcome planning, business knowledge, operational experience, performance management, strategic planning, critical and lateral thinking, and financial management. I bring a collaborative approach and a true understanding of community.
No matter where I worked around the world, I always supported the community, from the less fortunate areas in Manilia to the underdeveloped projects in Nicaragua and everywhere in between not because I had to but because that’s in my view is the Kiwi way - you help where you can. The businesses I ran also worked to a strict code of social responsibility to support local communities both in funding and in kind.
If you also believe I can add value to our council leadership team, then please share this post and Vote Ray Adlam for council.
