"The session was mind-blowing!"

A big mihi to Chastity and Kyla from Love Wainuiomata for sharing their expertise in capturing the mahi we all do through digital story telling and social media. August's Te Aka Tūao hui was a perfect time to meet and collaborate with other community organisations around Te Awa Kairangi.

Participants learnt that the moments we share online travel far beyond our spheres of connection - even a small community group in Wainuiomata can reach millions of people! 🌟

“My life would be so weird without my volunteering and the people that are part of Youthline.”

Natarsha Orsman has made children’s rights and voice a priority in every facet of her life. Wanting more face-to-face work with young people and to further her advocacy, she joined Youthline Wellington’s Youth Development Programme as a youth development volunteer in 2021 and was a Board Member for over two and a half years.

When asked to describe her work in three words, she chooses “Empowering, Emotional, and Energizing.”

Today, our CEO Zainab caught up with Marcia from Volunteer Wellington Te Puna Tautoko - Hutt Branch, who was a founding member of Youth Inspire. It was a wonderful reminder of the strong foundations Youth Inspire was built on and the legacy that continues today.

At the heart of both Youth Inspire and Volunteer Hutt is a shared belief that when volunteers, rangatahi, and community organisations come together, everyone benefits. Opportunities are created, confidence grows, and communities become stronger and more connected 🙌

We're excited about the potential for future collaboration and what this could mean for the young people and communities we serve 🤩

Watch this space... there are plenty of exciting opportunities ahead 👀

Congratulations to Friday's Morning Tea Shout recipients, the DCM Wellington Health Service Volunteers!

The Health Service Volunteers allow DCM to offer more than just housing support; they support whānau with drop-in dental and physio care. These volunteers care about their community and want to do their part to improve the well-being of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Jaimie Ngan, DCM Dental Coordinator, put in the nomination form, "Our volunteers instinctively live and breathe the same values as DCM of Kotahitanga, Manaakitanga, Pono, Rangatiratanga, Hihiritanga, and Whanaungatanga, ensuring our whānau receive a holistic, wrap-around service."

Yesterday, some of the Z Energy staff spent the day with crafters from Crafting Threads of Aroha (Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua and Kapiti) crocheting, knitting, and sewing projects for charity and community projects in need.

They created squares for blankets, sewed up reusable bags, and crafted daffodils for Cancer Society Greater Wellington's Daffodil Day!

Last year, Crafting Threads distributed 8,000 items across Wellington, Porirua, Hutt Valley, and Kāpiti. They are always looked for donated crafting items like yarn, fabric, and more - just pop them an email or a message on their page.
