Do you have working smoke alarms?

Both landlords and tenants are responsible for working smoke alarms!🏡

It's the landlord's job to make sure there are working smoke alarms installed in every rental and to replace any that no longer work with new long-life photoelectric ones!

It's the tenant's job to make sure these smoke alarms are maintained - this includes replacing the batteries when needed for the duration of the tenancy!

🔥All of the Taranaki District has moved to a restricted fire season as of 8am Friday 21 January.🔥

This restricted fire season means anyone wanting to light an open-air fire will have to apply for a permit and follow the conditions listed on the permit. You can apply for a permit at checkitsalright.nz.

Taranaki District Manager, David Utumapu says by putting these restrictions in place, we can provide advice to the public around safe fire use before it’s too late.

“It’s been hot, and at times windy in Taranaki this summer – conditions that make it very easy for a fire to get out of control. Managing these fires now will prevent problems later,” he says.

“We want everyone lighting fires this summer to be safe and aware of the weather conditions. If it’s hot and windy, please don’t light a fire.”

For more information around lighting fires in a restricted fire season, go to checkitsalright.nz.

Know what to do if we have our flashing lights or sirens on?

If we are approaching you with flashing lights or sirens, move out of the way, as soon as it is safe to do so. You don’t need to brake or swerve.

Simply indicate, let us know which way you’ll be moving, and do so at a safe and steady pace.

If we are stationary with our flashing lights or sirens on, slow down and pass with extra caution.

Make sure to regularly water the base of your real Christmas tree!

This will prevent it from drying out, and make it safer for tree lights and electrical tree decorations.
