In politics there's a technique used to manipulate the media we call the "Dead Cat" strategy. This is where a political party knows that a highly unfavourable bombshell is about to be revealed such as the former president of the party admitting a "fresh historical s*x abuse charge".

So on that EXACT SAME day, the political party announces a high-profile candidate to distract the media coverage and public attention from the bombshell. And scream "look over here everyone, it's a dead cat!" 👀 🙀

The technique is used to suck the media into covering their carefully selected "dead cat" while simultaneously diverting the public attention away from the bombshell.

It usually works quite well, due in part to a large chunk of our media being owned by right wing billionaires, and in part to people like this particular dead cat being appointed to the board of our state-owned broadcaster by this government (Minister Goldsmith to be exact, you know, old mate).

But it doesn't work completely. Social media gives us the ability to call out dead cats for what they are. Distractions. The repulsive manipulation of our media by those with deep pockets who will stop at nothing to manipulate the public narrative.

And we're about to test the limits of that influence.

Because I believe there are things that have an odious stench so repugnant, that no amount of screaming to look at a dead cat can hide. The truth has a funny way of refusing to stay hidden. No matter how much money and influence is spent trying to do just that.

If you read this far, I want you to share this post. Let's see how far and how wide we, the people, can fling their dead cat back over the bloody fence, and if we can get the mainstream media to bloody focus on what's actually important. And if not, we'll just keeping doing their job for them.

Ready, steady, go.

Hey Feilding! I've been out and about in your community talking about the real issues that count for all of us.

I spent the morning with Wayne and Ange Moxham from Udderly Organic at Koputuroa near Levin. It was incredible hearing Wayne explain how they use no inputs: no fertiliser, chemicals or palm kernel extract. They reduced stocking rate by 20%, now have fatter, healthier cows, and produce the same milk volume with far less stress on cows, land and waterways. Sustainable healthy farming works and is very profitable.
