Inclusive Greens of Aotearoa New Zealand

Inclusive Greens of Aotearoa New Zealand Inclusive Greens is the 'lived experience" disability network of Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand. We honour our members' intersecting identities.

Haere mai / Wecome to the public page of the Inclusive Greens. We are the Green Party's disability network, led by and for everyone within the Green Party who self-identifies as disabled or Deaf, including people living with chronic illness or mental illness or who are neurodivergent. On this page, we openly share perspectives from the network relevant to the disability community, allies,

MPs and the wider public. Please like the page and join in the conversation with your thoughts in the comments. Disabled members of the Green Party of Aotearoa NZ are welcome to join our network. If you have questions about joining the Green Party or Inclusive Greens, just message the page and we'll be happy to help you out! The Inclusive Greens aim to be a safe place for us as disabled people to share our perspectives or experience on any part of Green Party participation, policy or politics that connects to disability, access or inclusion. Through our leadership, we want to work with members in all areas of the Party to deeply understand and uphold disability rights and strive for full accessibility and inclusion. Our work is founded on the Green Party's charter and values especially honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and our own lived experience. Together, members of our Network form a community with the power to drive political change,

We challenge ableist policies, behaviours and attitudes, including those we've been taught to hold ourselves. We also recognise and challenge racism, xenophobia, classism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of harmful thinking. These engrained forms of thinking hurt us as individuals and as a group or collective. If we notice people not respecting this within our network or on our public-facing social media pages, we will firstly offer constructive feedback. Anyone showing persistent disrespect of this kaupapa won't be able to participate.

Please sign this important petition from ActionStation opposing the Disability Support Services Bill.

This bill would remove important legal protections for disabled people and carers, limiting access to support that many rely on to participate fully in society.

The Government claims the bill does not change existing legal rights. However, restricting the ability of family members to access disability support funding for themselves and their children would have significant real-world impacts, reducing support that both disabled children and carers depend on.

The Green Party has consistently opposed policies it believes discriminate against disabled people, including changes to health eligibility criteria, reductions in accessible housing support, and now this bill. We will continue to stand alongside disabled New Zealanders and advocate for their rights, dignity, and access to the support they need

Disabled people and their carers already face huge barriers just to live, work and care. This bill sets a dangerous precedent and strips away legal rights that other New Zealanders still have. It cancels existing court cases, shuts down claims that were filed properly and on time, and stops disabled...

The Green Party as long opposed unfair and cruel benefit sanctions. AI is a new technology that has no business making decisions about people’s lives

We stand with our MP Ricardo Menéndez March MP who has quoted in this article as saying This is a carte blanche expansion to basically allow a robot, a machine, to have power of people's lives," he said

Coalition parties say the proposed law would make welfare system administration more efficient.

Disability rights can not be separated form the rights of other minority communities. That is why we stand with our party in opposing NZ First’s homophobic and transphobic bill seeking to legally define what a woman is.

This bill is nothing more than an attack on the trans community for the political gain of those backing it. We call on all parties to withdraw their support immediately

“The Government has shown time and time again that it has no intention of listening to the voices of disabled people and caregivers. To them, we are simply first in line for austerity measures.
