Build CommUnity - Vote for Change !

As parents we want the best for our children, we want to equip them with the skills they will need to navigate this challenging world.

Erica Stanford’s changes have been tried before in the United Kingdom 15 years ago. The evaluation showed this approach left many children behind and further entrenched existing inequalities. Our children deserve an education that gives everyone the opportunity to succeed.

Let me be clear - reading, writing and maths are the fundamental building blocks of a good education. But not all children learn the same way. Erica Stanford’s changes prescribe only one way of learning and this will leave many children behind. We need an education system that gives all Kiwi kids the opportunity to do more than just memorise facts. Creativity, problem solving and critical thinking are the skills our children will need for the future.

This week the Coalition announced that, in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis, people already struggling will effectively fund welfare changes themselves. Around 80,000 people on support payments will face a 5% reduction in order to lift others to a similar rate, while Temporary Additional Support is also being cut by 5%. The savings? Just $1.6 million.

At the same time, politicians received a 2.4% pay rise costing taxpayers $1.2 million.

Once again, those with the least are being asked to carry the burden while those at the top are protected. Balancing the books on the backs of people in need is not fairness — it’s a political choice.

Another Coalition attack on our democracy! Now they are recklessly trying to scrap the Broadcasting Standards Authority. Check you’re enrolled and Vote for change in November!

We are already living in a social media Wild West of disinformation, abuse, conspiracy theories, and algorithm-driven outrage. At the very moment trusted journalism and independent accountability are needed most, the Government wants to weaken one of the few public safeguards we have.

The BSA is not censorship — it is an independent process that helps protect fairness, accuracy, and public trust while balancing freedom of expression. Strong democracies do not abandon standards and accountability.

If we remove trusted oversight from broadcasting while online platforms remain largely unregulated, we risk accelerating division, mistrust, and the erosion of informed public debate in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Today the Coalition continued attacking ordinary New Zealanders. Tax breaks for landlords was ok but with the cost of living causing increasing poverty, Minister Willis increases rents for social housing ! Thinks they’ve won lotto. If reducing the amount a family has left for food, clothing and traveling to work by 5% is winning lotto, we suggest she tries living on that income.
