Thank you Paleto Bay PD for assisting our deputy with a motor vehicle crash that occurred early this morning on the Great Ocean Highway, just outside of Paleto Bay. The driver of the black SUV lost control of her vehicle and crashed several feet down, coming to rest next to the retaining wall. The driver was transported to a local area hospital and treated for minor injuries. Upon release, she was transported to jail and charged with DUI among other traffic violations.

PROACTIVE POLICING LEADS TO ARREST OF HIT & RUN DRIVER - On Friday, April 26, one of our deputies was patrolling the Vinewood area when observed a black SUV strike a limo and drive off. The deputy was able to catch up to the offender who tried to hide behind a nearby business. The deputy made contact with the driver who was later arrested. Great job, deputy!

VEHICLE PURSUIT RESULTING IN DEATH OF CIVILIAN

On the evening of April 20, 2024, a deputy assigned to our patrol division attempted a traffic stop on a black passenger car after the vehicle struck his patrol car at an intersection in the Vespucci Beach area. The vehicle failed to stop for the deputy resulting in a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit traveled through the Vespucci Beach area and ultimately made it to the beachfront near the Lifeguard Headquarters.

As the vehicle approached the walking path at Vespucci Beach the suspect vehicle struck a pedestrian walking along the walking path and then struck a light pole. The suspect vehicle began to flee again towards the Lifeguard Headquarters and then attempted to come back towards the walking path. The deputy intentionally rammed the suspect vehicle to keep him from going back into the direction of pedestrians and innocent bystanders; ultimately terminating the pursuit.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries and then transported to the detention center.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Los Santos Police Department responded to assist in the investigation.

INCIDENT ALERT - The Los Santos County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a vehicle pursuit this evening that resulted in the death of an uninvolved citizen. This incident occurred in the Vespucci Beach area after a vehicle pursuit. The Los Santos Police Department has been called in to assist in the investigation due to the incident occurring within their jurisdiction and in order to have an outside agency investigate the incident.

There is a heavy police presence in the Vespucci Beach area specifically near the Lifeguard headquarters. Please avoid the area if possible. There is no longer any danger to the public and the offender has been taken into custody. More information, including dash and body camera video will be released at a later time.

Yesterday and throughout the night our deputies continued to conduct stops looking for impaired drivers, and two of them made it super easy by crashing and rolling their cars over. Although looking for impaired drivers was the main focus of the deputies assigned to our traffic unit, even our patrol deputies got involved and got in on some of the action!

Our deputies made a total of 22 DUI arrests throughout the county yesterday and into the early morning hours.

With the Super Bowl being right around the corner, we figured this would be the best time to warn everyone thinking about drinking and driving tomorrow!

At the beginning of the year we revealed the new paint scheme for our patrol division patrol cars. Our patrol division was not the only division that received an update.

We are happy to share with you the new paint scheme for all of our marked units within our special operations division. Our special operations division consists of our traffic and criminal suppression units. Our traffic unit specializes in and focuses on impaired driving enforcement, speed enforcement and all other traffic related issues. Our crime suppression units focus on proactive enforcement in high crime areas around the county.

These vehicles have been painted black and the new stealth or ghost logos are only able to be seen from certain angles.

With that being said. We warned you. If you’re thinking about drinking and driving, speeding or involving yourself in criminal activity, we will be looking for you!

When you hear “Los Santos” you automatically think of city life, tall buildings, traffic and thousands of people. I think you would be surprised at how many crashes our deputies respond to daily involving animals, such as cows in the more rural areas of Los Santos County. Slow down and pay attention to your surroundings.
