FPDA Celebrates the Grand Opening of Agriculture Infrastructure built by Australian Government
FPDA is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of its newly built state of the art integrated training and development facility in Kainantu, Eastern Highlands Province on Friday, December 13, 2024. The two vital infrastructure includes the Tissue Culture Laboratory and Training Centre. The investment is funded by the Incentive Fund under the PNG-Australia partnership program.
The tissue culture laboratory will enable FPDA to generate high quality and disease-free potato plantlets to meet the increasing demand for potato seeds and improve productivity, thus promoting the growth of the potato industry. This laboratory will cater for propagation of clean planting material for other crops as well in future.
Training facility is a first for FPDA and will be used to run training, building capacity of farmers and players of the value chain as well as other key industry stakeholders and service providers.
This is a milestone achievement reflecting proactive collaboration between FPDA and DFAT/Incentive Fund to enable the growth of the horticulture industry which supports bulk of the country's population for food security and income opportunities, improving their livelihoods.
FPDA is grateful to Incentive Fund and DFAT for the massive funding support valued at K17 million to set up this very important facility which is in line with the current government’s priority on agriculture, servicing the hardworking farmers and stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
It is acknowledged that FPDA is one of the few government agencies in the country to become recipient of such funding on the back of its merit in good governance and best management practices, and we would like to maintain it into the future.
On behalf of the board, management, staff and the hard-working farmers, we extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Australian government for their generous support that will go a long way in supporting our farming communities.
We would like to receive all our guests and key partners in a truly Eastern Highlands Style. Please come along and be part of the celebration.
