Government presents K30 million to Women's Micro Bank
_________________________________________

The Government has presented K30 million to the Women’s Micro Bank (Mama Bank) to support women-led MSMEs across the country.

Prime Minister James Marape, Minister for Commerce and Industry Win Bakri Daki, and Department of Commerce and Industry (DCI) Secretary David Ganaii witnessed the signing of the MoA at Government House on November 20, 2025. The funding will provide low-interest loans starting from K300 to K5,000, with opportunities for higher support as businesses grow.

Minister Daki said the support will help mothers access credit right at their doorstep, especially those in rural areas. Prime Minister Marape encouraged districts to work with the Mama Bank and allocate 10 percent of DSIP funds to grow SMEs.

Women’s Micro Bank Chairlady Elizabeth Kopel thanked the Government and DCI for making this long-awaited partnership possible.

The Department remains committed to empowering women, growing SMEs, and supporting national development.

DCI celebrates PNG@50

Port Moresby, September 25, 2025 - The Department of Commerce and Industry (DCI) has joined Papua New Guineans in celebrating the nation’s 50th Independence Anniversary, marking a historic milestone in the country’s journey.

Throughout the celebrations, DCI staff and leaders actively took part in a Flag-raising ceremony, Float parade, and Outdoor cultural activities, culminating with the Gala Dinner Night on 15th September, 2025.

At the gala dinner, Commerce and Industry Minister Hon. Win Bakri Daki reaffirmed the department’s commitment to driving economic transformation and inclusive growth. Former chief secretary, department head and diplomat Joshua Kalinoe also delivered a powerful message, noting that while PNG has made progress, more work remains to realize the full promise of independence.

DCI Secretary David Ganaii also reflected on the milestone, stating during the launch of the week-long celebrations:

“The unity in diversity we see in our display today has always been what we maintain as a country over the last 50 years,” he said.

“We are a population of many nations defined by ethnicity, who can live together in a country for 50 years. This very existence deserves our celebration today.”

Mr. Ganaii further acknowledged, at the gala dinner, the efforts of PNG’s founding fathers and emphasized that the Department has come a long way, now stabilized with permanent officers dedicated to delivering on its mandate.

The Department’s staff proudly wore their provincial attires during the float parade and cultural showcases, symbolizing unity in diversity and reflecting the richness of Papua New Guinea’s traditions.

As the country reflects on 50 years of nationhood and looks ahead to the future, the Department of Commerce and Industry remains steadfast in its mission to foster commerce, strengthen industry, and create opportunities for all Papua New Guineans.
