An inspiring story has emerged from Kandep District, Enga Province, where an 18-year-old boy has achieved an outstanding academic milestone.

Junior Pyakari, from Pumbul Village in Kandep, has graduated with the highest distinctions in a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from the Papua New Guinea University of Technology.

DAILY NEWS UPDATE

A magistrate is expected to hear submissions next week from former Kandep MP Don Polye regarding allegations of misappropriating K1.7 million.

Polye, who previously served as Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, was the first politician charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

He faces multiple charges, including attempting to pervert justice, conspiracy to defraud, and official corruption linked to funds belonging to the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation.

According to his lawyer, Edward Sasingian, submissions are ready and will be presented in court. The matter will be heard by Magistrate Paul Puri Nii.

Court documents state that investigations began in November 2024 into the alleged misuse of over K1.7 million. It is claimed that between January and May 2024, the funds were paid in four separate transactions to Karma Investment Ltd for services related to sports equipment and infrastructure.

Records from the Investment Promotion Authority show that the company is owned by Polye’s wife, Kathleen Ruth James. It is further alleged that the contracts were awarded without proper procurement processes.

Authorities also confirmed that evidence was seized from PNGSF offices in July 2025 as part of ongoing investigations.

The case is expected to continue in court next week.

POLITICS 👇
Every Keke-Mahn supports their candidate’s dreams and goals — not always because it’s right, but sometimes because they expect personal benefit.

Oh Keke-Mahns…
• Posting long praises about your leader when even you know they are not perfect.
• Changing your profile photo to your leader’s picture — are you married to them?
• Fighting, hurting, or even killing an innocent person just to defend political pride.
Is political loyalty worth more than human life?

Oh Kandep People,
We claim to be educated, yet sometimes we behave without wisdom.
Education is not just about certificates — it’s about character, maturity, and peace.
Let us support leaders with wisdom, not blind loyalty.
Let us compete with ideas, not violence.
Let us choose unity over pride.
Politics should build Kandep — not divide it.
