Long Term Prisoner Discharge Today: Robert Moses
Today, August 4, 2025, marks the discharge of Robert Moses, popularly known as "Papa Robert," from Buimo Correctional Institution. Robert Moses, aged 64, was a long-serving detainee who was remanded and subsequently sentenced at approximately 50 years old.
Robert Moses was initially remanded at Buimo CIS in 2008 alongside his brother, Naimen Moses. In 2008, he was sentenced to a term of 22 years, 5 months, and 2 weeks for the offense of willful murder. The crime involved a land dispute with his cousin brothers, which led to violent confrontations.
During his sentence, Robert Moses was classifcied as low risk prison to Maximum Security Unit (MSU) of Buimo. Throughout his period, he was assigned to the Reception & Discharger unit, where he performed various duties such as cleaning and laundry for detainees' uniforms. He was affectionately known among officers and fellow detainees as "Detainee Robert Moses" and also as "Papa Robert," reflecting his longstanding presence and respect within the prison community.
While serving his sentence, Robert Moses experienced the loss of his brother, Naimen Moses, who passed away while both were detained at Buimo. This loss marked a significant personal milestone during his lengthy incarceration.
After serving approximately 17 years of his sentence, Robert Moses has now been discharged. His release concludes a important chapter of his life marked by enduring service and resilience through a lengthy imprisonment.
