During Wakorma’s second Community Meeting held on Monday, 23 March 2026, the Ward 23 Councillor, Hon. Mr. Kino Muesar, together with community members, elected and appointed new community leaders. They also assigned portfolio responsibilities for the Wakorma Community Government for the period from 2026 to 2030.
The newly appointed community executives and their respective portfolios are as follows:
- Mr. Teddy Warisur – Law & Order
- Mr. Andrew Taupi – Education
- Mr. George Mime – Health & Hygiene
- Mr. Gabriel Nabura – Agriculture & Livestock
- Mrs. Manawe Badu – Social Services, Youth, Sports & Recreation
- Mrs. Esther Muiyager – Social Services, Youth, Sports & Recreation (Assistant)
- Mr. Anselem Meldia – Social Services, Youth, Sports & Recreation (Assistant)
- Mr. Liwot Awar (New Community Committee Member) – Infrastructure & Works
- Mr. Gila Kaisul (Ward Recorder) – Community Affairs
In addition, Mr. Anthon Kale Meldia was appointed as the new Community Chairman.
Hon. Muesar and the community members stated that this marks the first initiative in forming community governments within the ward, with Wakorma being the first. Other communities in the ward will also establish their own community government bodies as part of this initiative.
Once all communities have established their leadership structures, the ward will then form its Ward Development Committee (WDC), comprising five members—two women and three men. The Councillor will serve as the Chairman by default, while the Ward Recorder (WR) will act as the Clerk/CEO of the committee. This leaves three remaining positions to be filled: two for women and one for a man.
The Ward 23 WDC will be responsible for integrating Ward Development Plans (WDPs), opening a ward bank account, designing an official ward logo, stamp, and letterhead, and facilitating the construction of a ward office for administrative purposes. Ward 23 is preparing to establish its WDC as soon as possible to ensure it meets all requirements before 2027 for the allocation of Service Improvement Program (SIP) funds from the Department of Finance.
