BSP AGENTS GOING LOCAL
BSP Agents play a vital role in assisting BSP customers in areas where banking services, branches, or ATMs are not available. Today, let's focus on Mr. Wesley Kais Lassu, a BSP Agent who serves people from Suaru to Tawulte, including the inland communities of Malala in Bogia District.
Mr. Lassu provides essential banking services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and funds transfers. Beyond these services, he also distributes BSP application forms to customers for various purposes, including opening new accounts and replacing ATM cards. He helps keep customers informed about updates and notices from the BSP Madang Branch and assists them in completing the required application forms.
Mr. Lassu is from the Moro Community and resides in Berakhah, the "Valley of Blessing," just a few metres from St. Mary's Malala Primary School. He said that before becoming a BSP Agent, he had little knowledge of how BSP tellers carried out their duties or how the banking system operated. It was only after becoming an agent that he gained a deeper understanding of the responsibilities involved and how the system works. Since starting in 2024, he has grown into an experienced BSP Agent.
To this day, he remains grateful for the opportunity BSP gave him and takes pride in representing the bank within his community. Apart from his role as a BSP Agent, he is also a hardworking businessman and operates his own enterprise, Berakhah Agri Trading.
Mr. Lassu is truly a valuable resource person in Bogia District. While there may occasionally be inconveniences or delays, it is important to remember that he is only one person doing his best to serve many communities. He cannot be everywhere at once. Like all of us, he is human, not a machine.
For this reason, we should appreciate the work he does and treat him with patience and respect. To everyone who has been served by him, you will know that he is an effective, humble, and approachable BSP Agent. Above all, he is one of the friendliest people you could ever meet.

A SUGGESTION TO BSP
As a concerned customer, I would like to suggest that BSP consider recognising BSP Agents as eligible referees for customer application forms.
In many rural areas, BSP Agents are often the most accessible and trusted representatives of the bank. They assist customers with account opening forms, card replacement applications, and other banking-related documentation. Despite their important role, agents are currently not accepted as referees for these applications.
Many rural customers regard BSP Agents as their primary point of contact with the bank and trust them as reliable referees. Therefore, it would be beneficial for BSP to consider formally recognising BSP Agents as approved referees for customer applications. Such recognition would not only acknowledge the important role agents play in rural banking services but would also make the application process more convenient for customers living in remote communities.
BSP Agents are an important link between the bank and the people. Giving them this recognition would further strengthen BSP's commitment to serving rural Papua New Guinea.
