A sight of relief.

On this night of Wednesday 3rd September the street lights installation at our District HQ had to be tested.

It was pleasing to see the streets from Dekim compound right down to the CHW school lighten up.

The installation work stopped today and will continue to the nearby village of Drolengam, Ankem, Sintem and further on to Kobex and Trefolip.

Our residence and visitors can now move freely in the night.

Let us look after this vital service for long term.

BUILDING ROADS, BUILDING THE NATION

This morning, under the bright sun, I walked through all the project sites. Along the way, I came across a man whose passion for his work immediately stood out. He was a committed and seasoned excavator operator with Teokyana Holdings Limited, named Michael, from Faywolmin.

Michael looked excited as he checked over his machine, making sure everything was ready for the day’s task—working on the Telefomin to Oksapmin Road. His focus and pride in his work captured my attention, and I couldn’t resist stopping to chat with him. After a brief exchange and a photo, I left him to his duties and continued my walk.

As I moved on, my thoughts drifted back to the early years of Papua New Guinea’s establishment. Before independence, our grandfathers built roads and airstrips with nothing more than digging sticks, spades, and determination. They carved connections into the rugged mountains and valleys with sheer willpower, creating the foundation for a nation on the rise.

Today, Michael’s excavator stands as a symbol of how far we have come. With its strength and efficiency, it will open a road to Oksapmin—bringing access, opportunities, and hope to communities that once struggled in isolation.

As we approach another Independence Day, I cannot help but reflect on the unbroken chain of sacrifice and service that links our forefathers to the engineers, operators, and builders of today. Through Connect PNG and many other development programs, these modern nation-builders are carrying forward the vision of progress.

To Michael, and to all the hardworking men and women who continue to shape the face of our nation through roads, bridges, and vital infrastructure—I salute you. You are the lifeline of Papua New Guinea’s future.

God Bless Papua New Guinea!!!!!!
