As part of a two day visit to PNG, a small delegation from the United States met with the Deputy Secretary Mr. Simon Tunapai and the Chief of Defence Force Major General Mark B.G Goina today.

The delegation comprised of Congressman Neal Dunn (FL-2), Congresswoman Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen (AS-AL) and other key personnel.

PNGDF Air Transport Wing Celebrates 48 years of Service.

The Air Transport Wing began Friday, 11 Aug 23 with a Commemoration Parade to commemorate 48 years of service. Present to celebrate the occasion were bilateral partners, representatives from the Correctional Services Commission, the Royal Police Constabulary, CASA PNG, and representatives from various stakeholder agencies, members of the PNGDF, families and friends.

The Unit stands proud with a distinguished history and over the years has achieved milestone achievements like that of the Flight of Excellence Programme; increased engagement in bilateral training, exercises and support with its bilateral partners.

Also, during the Commemoration Parade, 26 soldiers were promoted to their various ranks.

A rare find when the Chief of Defence Force met his signaler from a little over 30 years ago in this isolated part of the country along the PNG – Indonesian Southern land border.

It was during the Southern Border Visit, the Chief of Defence Force met 85474 Sergeant (Rtd) Hemboko Nema. Sgt Hemboko was from the Signal Platoon, Support Company, 1RPIR. He enlisted in June 1972 and retired on 22 March 1987.

Towards the end of his 15 years of service, he served under Major General Mark B.G Goina as his signaler during Operation Albatross. Today SGT (Rtd) Hemboko works as the head of security for the Bensbach eco-tourism lodge which is frequented by tourists, anglers and bird watchers in the outskirts of the Western Province.

The retired military service man stands with pride and carries out his task with the military discipline acquired during his 15 years of service.

"United States to assist PNGDF with Polyester Uniforms"

Last week Tuesday, a small contingent from the United States flew to Port Moresby from Philadelphia and Hawaii comprising of both servicemen and civilian staff with Uniform Samples; particularly the Polyester Dresses for the PNGDF. The Samples presented included respective dresses for the Land, Maritime and Air Elements with specific dress designs tailored to suit servicewomen of all 3 elements. The samples includes all the items of dress from head to foot.

The team on behalf of the U.S Indo-Pacific Command met and confirmed Dresses' Specifications and Requirements with the Chief of Logistics and respective Service Directors (PNGDF) to ensure all requirements are thoroughly met. The team took their time to also briefed Chief of Defence Force before heading back to United States.

Once all necessary processes are finalised, all servicemen and women will be issued a set of 3 pairs each from head to foot. *The shoes; will encompass a high shine specifically for Parades and Ceremonial Occasions while the other two will be worn as part of the Dress of the Day.

This endeavor was progressed through the request from the Chief of Defence Force, Major General Mark Goina to the Commander of the U.S Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral John C. Aquilino earlier this year.

The HQ PNGDF held its 42nd Remembrance Day Dawn Service this morning at Murray Barracks Parade Ground to commemorate the fallen heroes of our country.

It was witnessed by current serving members with retired servicemen and the families alongside our military bilateral partners from Australia, NZ, Japan, and USA.

"Host snatched the Titles"

The Chief of Defence Force's Rugby Cup Tournament shield with Remembrance Day Golf Challenge championship title for 2023 were snatched by the host teams from Igam Barracks.

The 1134 Crocs muzzling through the grand final game to become the winning Champion of CDF's Rugby Cup 2023 over the defending premiers, HMPNGS Basilisk Marlins while the Engineer's Golf team took the top prize of the Remembrance Day Golf Challenge.

The Golf tournament was played at the Lae Golf Course on the Wednesday, 19th July followed by the Rugby grand final game at Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium on the 20th July.

Opening of the Commander’s Cup 2023

Game day has arrived. An array of colours brought to life at the Igam Barracks yesterday with participating teams from all the Units of the PNGDF.

Governor of Morobe Province, Hon. Luther Akisawa Wenge officially opened the CDF's Rugby Cup Tournament 2023 at the Igam Barracks Rugby Oval.

Present during the opening ceremony included Unit Commanding Officers and their RSMs, representatives and supporters from each participating teams as well as sponsors and communities within the general locality.

In a small but significant ceremony yesterday, the New Zealand Defence Advisor (NZ DA) to Papua New Guinea, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Prendergast was farewelled at the Command Officers Mess, Murray Barracks.

"It is with utmost appreciation and gratitude that we acknowledge your unwavering contributions to the PNGDF and the wider Defence Organization in your last 3 ½ years as the NZ DA to PNG. Your time with us in PNG is truly valued".

"On behalf of the men and women of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, I thank and wish you and family, success and blissful journey in your endeavors ahead".

LTCOL Prendergast during his tenure as DA, also looks after the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

One of his milestone contributions whilst serving his term was the Commissioning of the Kumul Leadership Centre where he took over from his predecessor to ensure the project started and reached completion, and officially gifted to PNGDF.

Through this facility, it gives that capability to PNGDF to enable continuous trainings and development in Leadership in all Levels across the Force.

Also present during the occasion was his replacement, Lieutenant Colonel Hayden Dempsey.
