[ 📢 ANNOUNCEMENT]

The 2024 PNG GDP was scheduled for release on Tuesday, 4 November 2025. However, the NSO has rescheduled the release to Thursday, 29 January 2026. The rescheduling of the release date has been caused by delays in receiving the source data needed to compile GDP.

The fastest growing provinces (between 2011 and 2024) were Western, National Capital District, Milne Bay, and Madang, each recording more than 3% average annual growth rate since 2011.

📢 Media Release: Correcting misinformation on the recent social media outburst of the burning of Census Materials during the BLACK WEDNESDAY MAYHEM.

In light of recent social media outburst on the burning down of a warehouse operated by Post PNG that contained Census Materials. The National Statistical Office (NSO) wishes to clarify and correct this misinformation.

Details of Census Materials and Funding Source

The destroyed census materials were procured in 2021 through NPC Tender (APC Registration No.: 01/2021, 02/2021 and 03/2021) worth K14.1m and a further K800,000 worth of materials were from censuses and surveys that were conducted by NSO including furniture and equipment from the previous office located along the Kumul Avenue, Waigani.

NSO lost the following items worth almost K15m.
A) 2021 Census Printed Documents – over 60 different types of documents
B) 2021 Census Stationery – over 17 different types of stationery
C) 2021 Field Gears – over 6 different types of field gears
D) Census Accounts Files (2019-2022) including 2x containers
E) Office Furniture & Equipment

📢 This is to formally notify users that the NSO has identified and corrected an error in the recent 2023 GDP release. The updated GDP is now available on the NSO website.

Details:
An error was identified in the estimate of 2023 Constant Price Extraction of Crude Petroleum & Natural Gas.

This error impacted the total Constant Price (Real) GDP estimate in Table 8

The 2023 estimate for the extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas has been corrected from K11.8 billion to K12.3 billion.
This correction increases the 2023 Constant Price GDP from K69.0 billion to K69.5 billion.

The growth rate of the Constant Price GDP from 2022 to 2023 is now 3.8%, up from the previously reported 3.0% in the November 2024 release.

📊 [Released] Consumer Price Index - December Quarter 2024

The headline CPI showed an increase of 2.7 percent from September quarter 2024 to December quarter 2024. The headline also showed an increase of 0.7 percent from December quarter 2023 to December quarter 2024.

The quarterly percentage changes in the CPI towns are:

Port Moresby +2.9%
Lae +0.6%
Goroka-Hagen-Madang +3.3%
Alotau-Kimbe-Kokopo/Rabaul +2.9%

The major contributors to the increase in December Quarter 2024 are Alcoholic Beverages, BetelNut & To***co Group, Transport Group and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group.

NCD Census update

As counting continues in the Nation's Capital, the United Nations Population Funds representative Saira Shameem visited the counting area, emphasizing the importance of accurate population data for effective development planning.

The ongoing efforts highlight collaboration between national authorities and international partners to ensure thorough and inclusive data collection, essential for informed policymaking and resource allocation.
