Along Sogeri Highway at the bottom of Owen Stanely Ranges which houses “ the famous Kokoda War Trek Trail ” just 19 miles away from Port Moresby, National Capital District. The farm site is situated alongside other small farms including Hagen Planters Pig farm. The locality of the area is commonly known as the “food bowl” of Port Moresby City. Farm Alstonia is only 4 years old since its humble b
eginning in year 2006 when it was traditionally growing a few pigs in a small shed and breeding chickens with several sheds in neat rows. Due to ever increasing demand of poultry and meat in the market and considering the unprecedented economic prosperity of the country and the city of Port Moresby, the potential prosperity in pig and chicken farming business is to be unrivalled and as such, the developer has expended substantial funds to renovate the properties on site in order to achieve better production, provide good service and quality products to retailers and even direct to consumers. The farm is now a fully fledged business enterprise with more than 1,000 pigs and 2,000 birds while its workers are continuously undergoing technical study and hands on training from regular visitation of experts from within PNG and Australia. The farm extensively uses sawdust as bedding , so there is no real effluent production in the normal liquid sense of the word. The small quantity of run off is collected into two ponds and pumped onto the farm gardens when required. The soiled sawdust is manually removed and composted for use as organic fertilizer in the vegetable enterprise which surround the Farm Alstonia. A foundational truth to the farm's establishment is undeniably the love for God and his creation, we have a responsibility at this time to honor God, this we believe is an ultimate call on our lives. The farm family consists of young men and women some with families, coming from throughout PNG who in combining their efforts work on the farm, firstly with the endeavor to build their lives in order to carry out their farm responsibilities.
