The office is created under the Civil Registration Act chapter 304 (Amended 2014) by an Act of Parliament. It was established and launched in July 2015 and jointly opened by then Central Province Governor Honorable Kila Haoda and then Minister for National Planning & Implementation Honorable Charles Abel. The office was set up with the core function of registering birth of citizens of PNG and also

process National Identity Cards.It is to serve the people of Central Province and also citizens of neighboring provinces.
