HON. SOROI MAREPO EOE REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO UPGRADING IHU HOSPITAL AND DEVELOPING IHU AND BAIMURU STATIONS

The Kikori District Development Authority (KDDA), under the steadfast leadership of Hon. Soroi Marepo Eoe, is pleased to announce renewed efforts to further develop Ihu and Baimuru stations, with a particular focus on enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the Ihu region.
Hon. Eoe, Member for Kikori and Minister for Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs, has long championed the upgrade of the Ihu Hospital facility. In previous years, he successfully secured K20 million from the Asian Development Bank to fund the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital in Ihu. Unfortunately, these plans were delayed due to illegal land disputes initiated by certain families from Vailala Mareke Village, resulting in a significant setback for healthcare services in the Ihu LLG area.
Despite these challenges, Hon. Eoe remains resolute in his commitment to deliver a modern hospital facility for the people of Ihu. “While the past setbacks have been disappointing, our determination to provide quality healthcare for our communities remains unwavering. The KDDA Board and I are moving forward with plans to build a new and improved hospital in Ihu,” Hon. Eoe stated.
In addition to the hospital project, Hon. Eoe emphasized that further development initiatives are planned to strengthen government services in Ihu and Baimuru stations. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to improve essential infrastructure and government presence across the district.
As part of these ongoing initiatives, funding has been approved for the establishment of a District Community Development Center (DCDC) at Kikori station. This center will serve as a hub for various government sectors, further enhancing service delivery and community engagement. The DCDC is a collaborative effort between the Department of Community Development, Youth & Religion and the Kikori District Development Authority, spearheaded by Hon. Eoe.
Hon. Soroi Marepo Eoe’s enduring dedication to the development of Kikori District continues to drive progress and deliver tangible benefits to the people of Ihu, Baimuru, and beyond.

CONSTRUCTION OF IHU STATION MARKET BUILDING REVIVED

Ihu Station, Papua New Guinea – Residents of Ihu Station and surrounding communities will soon benefit from a modern, purpose-built market facility, as construction of the Ihu Station Market Building resumes under the management of Huria Business Solutions Limited.
The project, initially delayed due to the previous contractor’s inability to complete the works, has been revitalized following decisive action by the Kikori District leadership. The renewed construction effort underscores the commitment to providing a safe, comfortable, and accessible venue for local farmers and small-to-medium enterprise (SME) operators to sell their produce and products.
The initiative was championed by Hon. Soroi Marepo Eoe, Member for Kikori and Minister for Provincial and Local Government Affairs, after observing constituents conducting business in challenging conditions—often seated on the ground or on makeshift benches.
Once completed, the Ihu Station Market Building will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, empowering local communities and supporting ongoing development plans for Ihu Station. This project is complemented by the recent acquisition of the MV IBK vessel by the Kikori District Development Board, which is expected to further boost economic activity and support agricultural and fishing communities in the region.
Funding for the market building has been made possible through the support of the Kikori District Development Authority and the Government of China.
