Public Accountability and Project Ownership in Wapenamanda District
It is important to maintain accuracy and accountability when discussing public infrastructure projects in Wapenamanda District. Misrepresentation of facts can mislead citizens and distort informed decision-making, especially as we approach the 2027 National Elections.
To clarify, the project in question was initiated under the leadership of former MP Rimbink Pato, who facilitated its proposal through the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The necessary documentation, approvals, and formal processes were completed during his tenure. Therefore, attributing the origin of this project to Hon. Miki Kaeok would be factually incorrect.
In contrast, Hon. Kaeok’s administration should be evaluated based on projects reportedly initiated during his term, including:
* Yapao Flyover Bridge (connecting Pausa to Wapenamanda)
* Hagen–Wapenamanda back road
* Malyam floor development
* Wapenamanda Courthouse
* Community Development Centre in Wapenamanda
From a governance and policy perspective, leadership assessment must be grounded in project initiation, implementation, and completion outcomes—not reassignment of credit. Voters deserve transparency on which leaders conceptualized, funded, and delivered development outcomes.
If projects initiated under the current leadership remain incomplete, this raises valid concerns regarding policy ex*****on, administrative capacity, and service delivery effectiveness over the past four years.
As citizens of Wapenamanda, it is our responsibility to critically evaluate leadership performance using evidence-based analysis, ensuring that credit is fairly assigned and accountability is upheld.
K4.5 million worth Talyokos Health Center Project in Wapenamanda District, Enga was completed yesterday, awaiting its official opening later this year.
Contractor PEEK Builders and Construction Limited proudly made the announcement last night.
The contractor said over 60,000 people will be served by this facility.
The event is expected to be attended by the Minister for Transport and Member for Wapenamanda District, Miki Kaeok, the Minister for Health, and Prime Minister, James Marape.
As a senior leader in the Pangu-led Government, Miki Kaeok’s approval and counterpart funding have played a crucial role in the successful completion of the Talyokos Health Center project.
The company’s managing director, Ezical Kipa, acknowledged the strong support from the Wapenamanda MP.
He stated that his consistent contribution of resources and hands-on involvement-during both good and challenging times-greatly assisted the contractors in completing the project within the required timeframe.
According to Mairip Community Representative Reynold Kulimbao and MD Kipa, the successful completion of this project marks a significant milestone for the community.
Located within the Miok tribes, this health center is a vital community initiative that will serve the people of Wapenamanda District and the wider Enga Province, improving access to essential healthcare services for all.
