The Provincial Internal Audit Office (PIAO) attended the 30th MLLBO Annual Convention and Seminar by the Mindanao League of Local Budget Officers, Inc. (MLLBO) in collaboration with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Regional Offices - Mindanao Area, held on August 20-22, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang, Davao City.

With the theme, "The LGU Budget - A Tool for Transparency and Accountability in Public Financial Management," the convention provided a valuable avenue to enhance knowledge and competencies in budgeting, fiscal management reforms, and best practices in local governance.

The Association of Government Internal Auditors, Inc. (AGIA) invited Hon. Santiago B. Cane, Governor of the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur, to serve as Technical Speaker during the 4th Local Government Unit Forum held on July 16, 2026 via Zoom.

Gov. Cane shared his valuable expertise and insights on “Strengthening Audit Capacity for a Resilient Local Governance: Provincial Government Perspective,” aligned with the forum’s theme, “Fortifying Integrity and Driving Innovation: The Role of Internal Audit in Local Governance.”

Through his continued support and active participation in initiatives that promote internal audit and good governance, Gov. Cane continues to champion integrity, accountability, professionalism, and innovation in public service.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 II The Agusan del Sur Association of Local Internal Auditors, Inc. (ASALIA) held its General Assembly and Mid-Year Assessment on July 17, 2026, in the Municipality of Rosario, Agusan del Sur. The activity brought together internal auditors from the Provincial Internal Audit Office and the Local Government Units of Rosario, Prosperidad, Loreto, San Francisco, Esperanza, Veruela, and San Luis.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 || The Provincial Internal Audit Office (PIAO) participated in the 4th Local Government Units (LGU) Forum organized by the Association of Government Internal Auditors (AGIA) on July 15–16, 2026, via Zoom, with the theme, "Fortifying Integrity and Driving Innovation: The Role of Internal Audit in Local Governance."

One of the highlights of the two-day forum was the participation of Governor Santiago B. Cane, Jr., who served as one of the distinguished panelists during the technical session on "Strengthening Audit Capacity for a Resilient Local Governance," where he presented the Provincial Government Perspective.

During his presentation, Governor Cane underscored the indispensable role of internal auditors in advancing good governance, emphasizing that while governors, mayors, department heads, and other elected officials are often at the forefront of governance, "𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨, 𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙙, 𝙮𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚. 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙩." He further recognized internal auditors as "𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚."

Governor Cane likewise showcased the Province's best practices and innovative initiatives in internal auditing, including the Electronic Audit Recommendations Monitoring System (eARMS), PIAO Archive, Provincial Risk Management Guide, and the Enhanced Audit Recommendation Evaluation Tool, demonstrating Agusan del Sur's commitment to innovation.

The forum served as a platform for internal auditors and practitioners from allied professions in LGUs to converge and exchange best practices, discuss emerging issues and challenges in establishing and strengthening internal audit units/offices, and explore the latest trends and developments in the practice of internal auditing.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 || The Provincial Internal Audit Office (PIAO) participated in the Department Information Officer (DIO) Hour Program, hosted by Emy Grace S. Molina, with Internal Auditor Alvin E. Bucong and Internal Auditor Quime B. Ursos as guests.

Mr. Bucong and Ms. Ursos provided an overview of the fundamentals of Internal Audit and Internal Control, shared key insights from their participation in the 3rd and 4th Local Government Forums, and discussed their valuable experiences and learnings from the International Knowledge-Sharing Engagement with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)-Bangladesh, facilitated through the Association of Government Internal Auditors, Inc. (AGIA).

Through its participation in the DIO Hour Program, PIAO continues to promote greater public understanding of the essential role of internal auditing in enhancing government operations, improving public service delivery, and upholding the principles of integrity, independence, objectivity, and accountability.
