🔥 THE “SPARE TIRE” THEY NOW WANT TO SEE?

During previous OVP budget hearings in the House of Representatives, some lawmakers argued that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) should receive a smaller budget because the Vice President is merely a “spare tire.”

They also questioned OVP programs, arguing that some of its services duplicate programs already being provided by agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

But now, as massive flooding hits parts of Luzon, some of the same voices are asking:

“Nasaan si VP Sara?”

That raises an important question.

If the Vice President is merely a “spare tire,” why are they looking for her when a major crisis strikes?

There are two things worth considering:

1️⃣ By calling for VP Sara’s presence during a major disaster, are they effectively acknowledging that she has the political will and leadership to respond to serious problems affecting Filipinos?

2️⃣ More importantly, why is the Vice President being expected to carry responsibility for a crisis that primarily falls under the mandate of the President and the national government?

You cannot diminish the Vice President’s constitutional role, question her office’s resources, and dismiss its programs as unnecessary—then suddenly demand her leadership when disaster strikes.

You can’t call her a “spare tire” when it’s convenient, then ask where she is when you need another driver.

Accountability should be consistent—whether the country is facing a budget hearing or a national crisis.
