The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 2 chief has urged Public Employment Service Office (PESO) managers to strengthen their role in employment facilitation, saying their performance is vital in advancing the governmentโs fight against joblessness.
Speaking before 114 PESO managers and staff during the opening of the Mid-Year Performance Assessment (MYPA) and Labor Market Analysis (LMA) Workshop held at the 24/7 Inn in Solano on July 9, DOLE Regional Director Jesus Elpidio Atal Jr. underscored the critical function of PESOs in shaping the regionโs employment outcomes.
โAng accomplishment ng region in employment facilitation comes from PESOs,โ Atal said. โWithout you, our efforts to reduce unemployment will falter. The future of employment lies in your hands.โ
To build on this, the first day of the event included a comprehensive training-workshop on labor market analysis, led by Myka Rose Trono, Officer-in-Charge of the Bureau of Local Employmentโs Labor Market Information Division. The session equipped PESO managers with tools to interpret labor data more effectively and translate them into actionable strategies for local employment.
Fritz Ian Viclar of BLE also presented insights on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in the labor market, encouraging PESOs to stay ahead of technological trends.
The event also showcased regional and provincial accomplishments for the first semester, helping PESOs identify strengths and areas for improvement in the months ahead.
On the second day, participants engaged in the PESOlympics, featuring basketball exhibitions, mind games, and team-building activities. The activity aimed to foster camaraderie, teamwork, and unity among PESO managers.
โWhile there is competition, what matters more is that we grow closer and strengthen our ties as one PESO-DOLE family,โ Director Atal Jr. said.
The activity also included an awarding ceremony to recognize the top-performing PESOs across the region for their exemplary delivery of employment facilitation services the previous year.
The third day featured discussions on minimum wage and the role of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, led by OIC Board Secretary Atty. Lovely Mei Dela Cruz. PESO Managers Association of Cagayan Valley President Cora Pua also facilitated the PESO Hour, a session for addressing operational concerns.
Gracing the activity were Solano Vice Mayor Eduardo Tiongson, Congressman Timothy Joseph Cayton, represented by Consultants Polly Garing and Victor Martin, and PESO Managers Association of the Philippines President Luningning Vergara. #
