CARE Center Holds Psychological Booths to Promote Mental Health and Wellness at Pines City National High School

The CARE Center at Pines City National High School (PCNHS) successfully conducted a 3 day Psychological Booth activity, providing learners with a safe, vibrant, and engaging space to connect, unwind, and learn more about their mental and emotional well-being. The initiative brought together the Guidance and Counseling Unit, School Mental Health Unit, and Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), in collaboration with BSU Psychology Interns, to strengthen school-wide mental health and wellness efforts.

Through a variety of interactive booths featuring games, Anik-Anik activities, and food and beverages, learners were given opportunities to relax, socialize, express themselves, and enjoy meaningful moments with their peers. Beyond entertainment, the activities emphasized the importance of understanding and managing emotions, practicing self-care, building healthy social connections, and creating positive experiences within the school environment.

The activity also reinforced the message that mental health is an essential part of holistic learner development. Students were encouraged to develop self-awareness, compassion, mindfulness, and resilience—skills that can help them cope with challenges both inside and outside the classroom.

The Psychological Booth is part of PCNHS’s continuing School-Wide Prevention and Wellness Programs, which promote mindfulness, sports, arts, values formation, positive discipline, anti-bullying and drug prevention initiatives, as well as other mental health activities. Through these sustained efforts, the school aims to foster a more positive, inclusive, safe, and supportive school climate, while helping reduce behavioral concerns and strengthen the overall well-being of every learner.

With the collective efforts of the school’s mental health advocates, guidance personnel, student leaders, and psychology interns, the CARE Center continues to remind the school community that caring for the mind is an essential part of caring for the whole learner.

Pines City National High School Conducts First Batch of School-Based Deworming Under OPLAN Kalusugan sa DepEd

The first batch of the DepEd-led deworming activity under OPLAN Kalusugan sa DepEd was successfully conducted at Pines City National High School (PCNHS), reinforcing the Department of Education’s commitment to protecting and promoting the health and well-being of learners. The activity was implemented through the School Health and Nutrition Program, led by Dr. Mary Libeney “Doc NayDarna” Sito, in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) and in accordance with the DepEd School Health Program.

The School-Based Deworming Program aims to help prevent and control soil-transmitted helminth infections, which commonly affect school-aged children and may negatively impact nutrition, growth, energy, concentration, and academic performance. Through the provision of deworming medication and other preventive health interventions within the school setting, learners are given accessible and essential services that support their overall well-being.

Deworming is a safe and effective public health measure that helps reduce the prevalence of parasitic infections and supports better nutrient absorption and physical health. Its implementation is expected to contribute to improved school attendance, enhanced learning capacity, and a healthier school community.

The successful conduct of the activity highlights the importance of sustained and integrated school health and nutrition programs. At PCNHS, the initiative reflects DepEd’s commitment to holistic education, recognizing that healthy learners are better prepared to participate, learn, and succeed. Through OPLAN Kalusugan sa DepEd, the school continues to work toward an environment where every learner is not only educated but also healthy, protected, and ready to reach their full potential.

PCNHS Participates in First National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill for SY 2026–2027

Pines City National High School (PCNHS) participated in the first National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for School Year 2026–2027 on June 18 as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and promote the safety of learners and personnel during emergencies.

At the sound of the alarm, students performed the standard “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure before proceeding to their designated evacuation areas under the supervision of teachers and classroom representatives.

Following the exercise, school officials conducted a post-evaluation meeting to discuss observations, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and recommend measures to enhance future emergency drills.

School Principal Danilo P. Gayao emphasized the importance of taking disaster preparedness activities seriously and encouraged learners to actively participate in such exercises.

“I observed that some students do not take the drill seriously. We need more dramatization and orientation so that learners can better understand the importance of earthquake preparedness,” Gayao said.

The NSED is a nationwide initiative designed to raise awareness and improve preparedness for earthquake-related emergencies through regular drills and simulations.

DepEd Central, Regional Office Visit PCNHS to Monitor Opening of Classes Under Revised Curriculum

To monitor the opening of classes and assess the implementation of the revised curriculum for School Year 2026–2027, officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) Central and Regional Offices visited Pines City National High School (PCNHS) on June 11, 2026.

The monitoring team was led by DepEd Central Office Atty. Director Ester Futalan and Director Michael Cabauatan. They were joined by Regional Office Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) Chief Jennifer Andi, together with Learning Area Supervisors Judica Dasco, Romulo Basa, and Asterio Madalla. During the visit, the officials conducted interviews and consultations with teachers and students to gather feedback on the school's opening week.

Teachers were asked about their preparations for the implementation of the revised curriculum, as well as the challenges and concerns encountered during the opening block. The team also sought insights from students regarding their experiences under the new curriculum. Students shared their impressions of the opening block and expressed their views on the changes introduced in the educational program.

According to Futalan, the revised curriculum is designed to help learners achieve better academic performance and develop competencies across all learning areas.
“The revised curriculum gives learners more time to focus on their lessons and complete their requirements without feeling overwhelmed by numerous activities,” Futalan said.

She explained that the curriculum allows students to engage more deeply with learning tasks and develop a stronger understanding of essential competencies. Futalan further emphasized that extracurricular activities will be strictly prohibited during the first semester to ensure that students remain focused on their academic responsibilities and learning goals.

“This policy is intended to help learners prioritize their studies and establish a strong academic foundation during the first half of the school year,” she added.
The monitoring activity forms part of DepEd’s efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of curriculum reforms and address concerns raised by schools during the transition period.
