PNP PUTS FULL SECURITY MEASURES IN PLACE FOR SY 2026โ€“2027 SCHOOL OPENING
As millions of learners prepare to return to schools nationwide, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed a robust security and assistance framework in motion, deploying a total of 55,507 personnel nationwide under Oplan Balik-Eskwela for School Year 2026โ€“2027.
The deployment underscores the governmentโ€™s priority of keeping school communities safe and accessible as classes formally open on June 8, 2026 until April 8, 2027. Of the total force, 28,751 are from the PNP, supported by 4,079 personnel from other units and 22,677 force multipliers from partner agencies and community groups, highlighting a strengthened whole-of-nation approach to school safety.
Security visibility will be reinforced through 9,319 Police Assistance Desks strategically placed in campuses and clustered schools, 9,525 mobile patrol units, and nearly 10,000 force multipliers actively assisting in security and crowd management in school zones nationwide.
PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., emphasized that the deployment is not merely about numbers, but about ensuring confidence among students and parents as the new school year begins.
โ€œImportante sa amin na maramdaman ng bawat magulang at estudyante na ligtas sila sa kanilang pagpasok sa eskwela. Hindi lang ito presenceโ€”this is assurance. Nandito ang PNP, kasama ang komunidad, para tiyakin na maayos at payapa ang balik-eskwela,โ€ the Chief PNP said.
He also noted that the initiative supports the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, where visibility, coordination, and quick response are prioritized, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.โ€™s direction to strengthen public safety for continuous and stable learning.
To address both on-ground and online concerns, the Anti-Cybercrime Group will maintain cyber monitoring against cyberbullying, misinformation, and fake news affecting students and parents. The EOD and K9 units are likewise on alert for possible threats in school areas, while the Highway Patrol Group will deploy road safety marshals to help ensure smooth traffic flow and protect students and commuters.
Local police units have been instructed to closely coordinate with schools, LGUs, and stakeholders to keep school environments orderly, including strict enforcement and coordination on zoning regulations around school vicinities.
As the country welcomes another school year, the PNP reaffirmed its commitment to being present where it matters mostโ€”on the ground, in communities, and beside learners and familiesโ€”advancing a Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman, where public safety is delivered with consistency, care, and purpose.

FORMER INSURGENT YIELDS TO PNP; FIREARM AND EXPLOSIVE DEVICE RECOVERED

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., facilitated the surrender of a former Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) member and the turnover of a firearm and an explosive device as part of the peace and security efforts of Police Regional Office 8. The activity was conducted at the Headquarters of the 2nd Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company in Brgy. Cristina, Calubian, Leyte, on May 28, 2026.

The surrenderer, known by the alias โ€œErik,โ€ a 49-year-old Filipino male from Carigara, Leyte, was formerly affiliated with the Buhawi Platoon under the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee, which operated in selected areas of Leyte. His peaceful surrender was achieved through sustained intelligence monitoring and enhanced engagement efforts by personnel from the 2nd LPMFC, Provincial Intelligence Unit, Regional Intelligence Unit 8, 805th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8, and the Calubian Municipal Police Station.

During the turnover, he surrendered one caliber .38 revolver without serial markings, three rounds of ammunition, and one hand gr***de. He likewise expressed his withdrawal from armed participation and his intent to return to peaceful civilian life. The surrendered items and the individual are now under the custody of the 2nd LPMFC for proper documentation, safekeeping, and evaluation for possible enrollment in the governmentโ€™s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that sustained engagement and operational initiatives remain essential in encouraging individuals involved in armed movements to abandon violence and reintegrate into society.

โ€œEvery successful surrender is a result of continuous effort on the ground to reach those who have long been influenced by armed struggle. We remain committed to bringing peace closer to every community,โ€ said PGEN Nartatez.

โ€œHindi namin isinasara ang pagkakataon para sa mga nais magbagong-buhay. Ang bawat desisyong magbalik-loob ay mahalagang hakbang tungo sa kapayapaan at kaayusan,โ€ he added.

The development reflects the PNP Focused Agenda, a transformation framework designed to enhance police service delivery and strengthen community trust. Among its key priorities is Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which supports effective operational responses and intelligence-driven actions that contribute to successful peacebuilding efforts, such as the surrender of CTG members.

โ€œWe continue to strengthen our operational efforts while maintaining strong community engagement to ensure lasting peace in conflict-affected areas,โ€ PGEN Nartatez said.

โ€œKapag pinagsama ang malasakit at tamang direksyon, mas nagiging posible ang tunay na pagbabago. Patuloy ang aming panawagan sa lahat na piliin ang mapayapang pamumuhay,โ€ he added.

As the PNP continues to intensify peace and reintegration initiatives under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of its commitment to โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.โ€
