HAPPENING NOW: The presentation of the proposed Baguio City Sports Complex is currently underway, as the City Government continues to explore ways to further strengthen sports facilities and support the development of Baguioโ€™s athletes and sports community.

City officials visited the landslide site in Purok 2, Sitio Riverside, Barangay Guisad Surong to personally assess the situation following the tragic incident that claimed the lives of ten individuals.

A coordination meeting was also conducted at Baguio International Academy, bringing together city officials and concerned offices to discuss the situation, assess the needs of the affected families, and coordinate the continuing response and assistance.

The officials likewise visited the evacuation site at Baguio International Academy, where families affected by the landslide are currently staying. They checked on the evacuees, listened to their concerns, and ensured that necessary assistance and support continue to reach them.

The Guisad Surong landslide is a painful reminder of the dangers brought by prolonged and intense rainfall. As the City Government continues its response and recovery efforts, the safety, welfare, and immediate needs of affected families remain a priority.

Our deepest sympathies go to the families who lost their loved ones. We also extend our gratitude to the rescuers, responders, volunteers, and all those who continue to assist the affected community.

When the lights go out, access to electricity becomes more than a convenience. It can mean staying connected, continuing work or school, supporting caregiving needs, and being able to reach emergency services.

During yesterdayโ€™s Management Committee Briefing (August 11, 2026) , the proposed Project BIAG Power (Baguio Integrated Access to Generator Power) was discussed as a way to bring emergency power closer to communities during major or citywide power outages.

Building on the experience of the Cityโ€™s free charging stations during previous power outages, the proposed program would establish Barangay Emergency Power Points where City and barangay owned generators and portable power systems can be deployed.

Instead of requiring residents to travel to a central charging station, emergency charging access can be brought closer to barangays, helping reduce travel, crowding and barriers for those who need it most.

The proposed system would prioritize essential needs, including emergency communication, caregiving and health related devices, while also providing charging access for students, workers and the general public.

Project BIAG Power is envisioned as a citywide emergency power continuity program, with clear protocols for safety, accountability, fuel management, crowd control and public information.

BIAG means life.

When the lights go out, government service must move closer to the people who need it most.

The City Government of Baguio will hold its regular Flag Raising Ceremony today, August 3, 2026, at 8:00 AM at the Flagpole Grounds, Baguio City Hall.

This week's ceremony will be hosted by the City Tourism, Culture and Arts Office (CTCAO) and will officially launch the 117th Baguio Day Celebration with this year's theme, "๐„๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐š๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐จ: ๐‚๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐‚๐ข๐ซ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ."

The program will include the regular components of the weekly flag raising ceremony, followed by the ceremonial launching of the city's Baguio Day activities.

On July 28, 2026, coaches from the Aquatics and Athletics teams convened at the Baguio Sports Office to discuss and coordinate the preparations for the upcoming tryouts. The meeting focused on the necessary activities and plans to ensure a well-organized and transparent selection process for aspiring athletes who will represent Baguio City in this year's Batang Pinoy.

Through careful planning and collaboration, the City Government of Baguio remains committed to providing our young athletes with every opportunity to showcase their talent, dedication, and sportsmanship as they prepare for one of the country's premier youth sporting events.
