The Provincial Government of Abra, under the leadership of Governor Eustaquio P. Bersamin and Vice Governor Anne A. Bersamin, proudly hosted the Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere (MOVE) Cordillera Mid-Year Consultation from June 2โ€“4, 2026, at Bahay Pag-asa, Calaba, Bangued, Abra.

The consultation brought together MOVE officers, local government officials, social welfare practitioners, and advocates from the different provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region, fostering collaboration and strengthening the collective commitment to gender equality and the eradication of violence against women and children.

The activity was spearheaded by Atty. King Blas Jervin Pagtailan, Provincial President of MOVE Abra, together with Vice President Jr Umipig and Secretariat Grainy Zelle Belong, in partnership with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The GSIS Abra Service Desk will be available at the Abra Provincial Capitol on June 5 (Friday) and June 18, 2026 (Thursday) to provide services to GSIS members and pensioners.

Beginning in the succeeding months, the GSIS Service Desk will be scheduled every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.

Members and pensioners who wish to process transactions, avail of GSIS services, or seek assistance with their inquiries are encouraged to visit on the scheduled dates.

In his message, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Patrocinio B. Abaya, Jr. emphasized the value of awareness in promoting responsible citizenship and active community participation. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Abra highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability, and citizen participation during the first Monday Flag-Raising Ceremony of June held at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.

DILG Provincial Director Kristoffer Dave R. Alvarez discussed the Open Government Partnership (OGP), a global initiative that strengthens governance through collaboration between government institutions and civil society. He emphasized that open government is not merely about compliance but about ensuring meaningful public engagement and inclusive decision-making.

Director Alvarez noted that although no local government unit in Abra was included in the initial rollout of the OGP Localization Program, the province has already established strong mechanisms for participatory governance through active civil society organizations, CSO Desks, and functional local special bodies. He expressed confidence that Abra has the potential to become a model of transparent, accountable, and responsive governance.

The activity served as a timely reminder that genuine peace, inclusive development, and effective governance are best achieved when government and citizens work together as partners in nation-building.

As part of its commitment to advancing legislative excellence and institutional innovation, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Abra, led by Vice Governor Anne A. Bersamin, conducted a benchmarking activity in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte on May 25, 2026, coinciding with the conduct of the Palarong Pambansa in the Caraga Region.

The delegation was warmly received at the Butuan City Hall by Mayor Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun and Vice Mayor Reynante B. Desiata, with Councilor Atty. Glenn Carampatana formally welcoming the members of the Abra Provincial Board.

The benchmarking focused on the organizational structure and legislative operations of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Butuan City, particularly its adoption of modern governance practices. Among the key areas explored were the digitalization of legislative sessions, efficient coding and archiving systems for ordinances, and mechanisms that enhance public access to legislative records and information.

The delegation also examined the design and functionality of the Cityโ€™s session hall, gaining valuable insights into facilities and systems that support transparent, efficient, and technology-driven legislative processes.

The activity reflects the continuing efforts of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Abra to learn from exemplary local government practices and to pursue innovations that strengthen public service, transparency, and responsive governance for the people of Abra.
