The Commission on Elections, through Minute Resolution No. 26-0239, has directed that all pending and future requests for Sangguniang Kabataan special elections to fill vacancies will not be given due course for the time being.

This suspension is in place while the Commission focuses on preparations for the November 2, 2026 National and Local Elections. COMELEC decided to hold off on acting on these SK vacancy requests to ensure that personnel, budget, and logistical resources are concentrated on the upcoming nationwide polls.

As a result, any SK positions that are currently vacant will remain unfilled until after the 2026 SK Elections. Barangays affected by these vacancies will continue to operate with their remaining SK council members, observing the quorum requirements under the SK Reform Act.

The measure reflects COMELEC’s standard approach of limiting special elections close to a scheduled nationwide election to avoid straining resources and to keep the electoral process orderly and focused.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Baguio, the Election Officer announced that the Commission on Elections – Sablan, Benguet concludes Voter Registration for November 2, 2026 BSKE in an Orderly Manner

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Sablan office closed voter registration on May 18, 2025, for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled on November 2, 2025.

The last day of registration proceeded in a generally orderly and peaceful manner. COMELEC personnel accommodated a steady stream of last-minute applicants who came to beat the deadline. No major incidents were reported during the conduct of the activity.

Next Steps in the Registration Process

The Election Registration Board (ERB) of Sablan will convene on June 1, 2026 to deliberate and approve the applications received during the registration period.

In compliance with election regulations, the List of Applicants for Transfer and Registration is now posted at the COMELEC Office of Sablan for public scrutiny. Registered voters and other concerned citizens may examine the list and file any opposition.

The last day to file opposition to any application is May 25, 2026.

Call to Action Amid Possible Postponement

While Voter Registration for the period turnout reflects the commitment of Sablan residents to participate in the democratic process, COMELEC Sablan reiterates the challenge of sustaining voter engagement.

Despite the proposals to move the November 2 2026 BSKE to another date, constituents are encouraged to remain proactive and take advantage of their right of suffrage said the Election Officer of Sablan. To be a registered voter is your voice in the Barangay and SK elections, regardless of schedule changes.

COMELEC Sablan reminds the public to monitor official COMELEC announcements for any updates on the election schedule.

The Office of the Election Officer took part in the civic parade marking the celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolks Month, underscoring its continuing efforts to bring voter services closer to the public.

During the flag-raising ceremony, election officer shared key updates on office operations and upcoming initiatives. Among these is the implementation of a work-from-home arrangement every Monday throughout May, except on May 18, which has been designated as the final day of voter registration. Officials emphasized that full in-office services will be available on that date to accommodate last-minute registrants.

To expand access to voter registration, the office also announced a series of offsite registration activities in the barangays of Pappa, Kamog and Banengbeng. These will be conducted in partnership with the Office of the Civil Registrar, allowing residents to process necessary documents and register more conveniently within their communities.

Preparations are likewise underway for prospective candidates, particularly with the processing of birth certificates, which will be required as part of candidacy documentation. Officials encouraged individuals planning to run for office to secure these documents early to avoid delays.

In addition, the office provided updates regarding the proposed postponement of the November Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, having Two Bills enrolled in the Senate and House of Representatives respectively, noting that further guidance is expected pending official approval. However, preparations for the scheduled elections is continous and underway.

The Election Officer concluded its announcements with a strong call for eligible voters to register, stressing the importance of participation in the democratic process.
