From the Soil to the Spotlight.

The entire FSSS family is bursting with pride as we celebrate the spectacular double achievements of our very own Ms. Trinity Meteoro, a 4th-year BS Agriculture major in Soil Science. Ms. Trinity proved her outstanding dedication to agricultural research.

She is awarded as the Best Thesis under Experimental Research during the 2026 Research Colloquium at the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development held on May 11, 2026.

She proudly represented CAFSD at the 2026 MMSU Undergraduate Research Exellence Award at the Center for Flexible Learning (CFL) on May 19, 2026, earning third place in a competitive field of ten students from various colleges.

Her research titled: Isolation, Characterization, and Identification of Putative Probiotic Bacteria from Onion (Allium cepa L.) Rhizosphere. With the wisdom and guidance of Thesis Adviser Maโ€™am Dinah Marie C. Dayag.

BS Agriculture 3rd year students majoring in Soil Science from the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development stepped out of the classroom and into the field to uncover what lies beneath our feet!

In a lowland area within the college premises, students conducted hands-on soil profilingโ€”carefully examining each horizon layer to identify and distinguish their unique properties and boundaries. Using the feel and roll method, they determined soil texture, and with the Munsell Color Chart, they decoded the soilโ€™s color like true scientists in the making.

This field activity is more than just digging soilโ€”itโ€™s about understanding the foundation of agriculture, sustainability, and food security. ๐ŸŒพ

Learning by doing, discovering by exploringโ€”these students are one step closer to becoming experts in soil science!

Soil Microbial Analysis

The 3rd-year BS Agriculture students, majoring in Soil Science, conducted a soil microbial analysis of different rhizospheres, including garlic, corn, and mung bean. The soil samples were gathered at the experiment area of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) and processed at the collegeโ€™s microbial laboratory. This lab experiment is part of their Soil Biology class under the topic of microorganisms. The activity included soil gathering, isolation, culture, and identification.

โ€‹The Future Soil Scientist Society (FSSS) joined the Stallions Pabuya with a beautiful cultural dance. The students wore traditional clothes and performed classic steps to show their love for our local history. It was a great performance that showed how much the group cares about keeping our culture alive and sharing it with everyone.
