Make-Up Classes Conducted to Address Learning Gaps in SDO Batac Schools
Batac City โ The Schools Division of the City of Batac conducted make-up classes across its public elementary and secondary schools, as well as in Alternative Learning System (ALS) center, to address learning loss and enhance the quality of education for all learners.
This initiative was implemented in response to the need to reinforce essential skills, particularly in reading, numeracy, science, and other core subject areas. These classes served as targeted interventions for learners who needed additional support in mastering grade-level competencies, especially those affected by recent class interruptions and learning gaps.
Make-up classes were carried out through small-group instruction, individualized learning activities, and interactive teaching methods designed to meet the specific needs of students. Teachers conducted diagnostic assessments to determine learning gaps and used the results to guide lesson delivery. Formative assessments were also administered to monitor learner progress and adjust teaching strategies.
School heads and ALS coordinators ensured the smooth implementation of the sessions, while division supervisors monitored progress to ensure alignment with curriculum standards. Parents and guardians were also encouraged to participate by supporting learner attendance and providing reinforcement at home.
According to the Schools Division Superintendent, the conduct of these make-up classes not only compensated for lost learning time but also strengthened the divisionโs commitment to improving learner outcomes through quality and responsive education.
The initiative concluded with positive feedback from both teachers and parents, citing noticeable improvements in learner confidence, participation, and mastery of competencies. The Schools Division Office intends to integrate insights from this implementation into future remedial and enrichment programs to sustain the gains achieved.
