MENRO Batad successfully assisted Ms. Josia Nem Layson during her 2nd data collection and sampling activity conducted on May 25โ€“26, 2026 in Barangay Alapasco, Batad, Iloilo. The activity focused on the collection of samples from Alapasco Dam to determine the diversity of zooplankton present in the area.

Zooplankton play a vital role in aquatic ecosystems as they serve as a natural food source for fish and help indicate the overall health and condition of water bodies. Through this initiative, valuable scientific data will be gathered to support environmental research, biodiversity assessment, and sustainable management of local water resources.

The MENRO Batad remains committed in supporting environmental studies and activities that contribute to the protection and conservation of the municipalityโ€™s natural resources.

As part of its continuing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable water resource management, the Local Government Unit of Batad, under the leadership of Hon. Elvira P. Alarcon and Hon. Steven Michael Y. Andrada, through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), successfully conducted water sampling and testing activities in various bodies of water within the municipality in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources โ€“ Environmental Management Bureau Region VI (DENR-EMB 6).

The activity aims to assess the current condition and quality of water resources, ensure environmental compliance, and gather essential data that will support future environmental planning, conservation, and rehabilitation initiatives of the municipality.

Water sampling and testing were conducted in the following areas:

โ€ข Sibajao River โ€“ Alapasco Bridge, Pasayan Bridge, Drancalan Bridge, and Malico Bridge
โ€ข Alapasco Dam โ€“ Viewing Area and Spillway Area
โ€ข Salong Bridge
โ€ข Binon-an Bridge
โ€ข Tapi-an Bridge

The LGU Batad remains steadfast in promoting environmental sustainability and safeguarding the municipalityโ€™s natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations.

The Local Government Unit of Batad, led by Hon. Elvira P. Alarcon and Hon. Steven Michael Y. Andrada, actively participated in the conduct of BARKADA in Barangay Batad Viejo, Batad, Iloilo.

This meaningful activity was conducted under the DILGโ€™s KALINISAN ( Kalinga at Inisyatibo Para sa Malinis na Bayan) Program, which highlights the initiatives BARKADA ( Barangay Kalinisan Day) , BaRCO ( Barangay Road Clearing Operation) , and HAPAG ( Halina't Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay) in promoting environmental cleanliness, community participation, and sustainable development. Barangay Batad Viejo was proudly identified as the Regional Showcase Barangay for the said program.

The activity was joined by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) headed by Ms. Grace Azarraga, MLGOO VII / Cluster Head, Batad MLGOO- Engr. Regil Gumayan, employees of the LGU Batad, the Batad Fire Station led by SFO4 Terzo Obera, OIC-Fire Marshal, and the Barangay Officials of Batad Viejo headed by Punong Barangay Pelith Pacardo.

Through unity and collective action, the Municipality of Batad continues to strengthen its commitment toward a cleaner, safer, and more resilient community.

๐‰๐”๐’๐“ ๐ˆ๐: Tonight, the Municipaity of Batad was honored for its outstanding commitment to environmental protection, earning the the LGU-Led Ecological Stewardship Award at the Daily Guardian Green Awards held at the Iloilo Convention Center on April 29, 2026.

The Municipality of Batad received the recognition for its exemplary initiative, โ€œA Pocket Forest of Hope: An Arboretum of Philippine Native Trees,โ€ which highlights how shared responsibility between local government and citizens can translate into meaningful, long-term ecological impact.

The award was formally received by Mayor Elvira P. Alarcon and MENRO Samuel B. de la Vega Jr., who represented the municipality during the ceremony.

Organized by Daily Guardian, the LGU-Led Ecological Stewardship Award honors local government units that successfully engage their communities as active partners in environmental protection, demonstrating that collective action is key to achieving lasting change.

Conduct of Waste Audit

The MENRO - Batad together with the each participating departments of the LGU conducted a waste audit after the clean-up activity.

During the activity, a total of 98 participants joined with 38 male and 59 female. 33 bags of trash were collected equivalent to 45.50 kilograms.
